The screams woke me up. It was day time but the sky was dark, a blood red. Smoke rose above the city, cries of help and fear echoed around the over grown garden. I looked around, it was beautiful it almost seemed magical the may the moss coated the trees and the flowers entwined with each other; it seemed the only beautiful thing left in this world.
"Hey Elizabeth, check this place out-" I said looking around to where she was sleeping, or at least where she used to be sleeping. She was gone, all that was left was a large area of flattened grass from where she must of had a rough night. My stomach lurched, panic over came me, was she caught? is she dead? did an angel take her? I dove into the scenery desperately trying to find her.
"What are you doing?" a familiar voice teased.
"Elizabeth" I screamed, and clasped her in a tight hug.
"Hi, umm oww?" she tried loosening my grip, I realised I was hurting her and backed off. She had in her hand a small bag, I stared at it. She pulled out an apple and held it out for me. I took it and started to eat. The taste was gone, all my concentration was on what we were going to do and the worry about if something went wrong. All the while the destruction and chaos of the world outside the garden got louder and more unbearable with every scream of desperation of another doomed soul to fall victim to the creatures outside our temporary sanctuary."Oi" I heared in the distance and I was suddenly swept back to reality to see Lizzie staring at me with a sincere smile.
"Worrying will get you nowhere, come on I thought you were the one who tried to live everyday like it was your last! Is this how you want to spend it?" I was unable to reply or make a comeback, I just nodded an d forced a smile. Elizabeth frowned. I sighed and stared to laugh.
"Whats so funny!" she called to me but I was too busy laughing.
"You!- Goth girl- telling me- to- cheer up!" I said between gasping for air from laughing but couldn't stop giggling. She seemed to understand my giggle talk and started chucking too until we were both on the floor in hysterics.
There was an explosion from the skyscraper closest to the abandoned house, we both stopped and watched as the building started to crumble right in the middle. We watched petrified as the top of the building started to tilt in our direction. My heart skipped a beat, at Any moment that building will collapse and will crush us. We had spent so much time worrying about the dead when we should have been concentrating on our surroundings too.Everything seemed to slow down as me and Lizzy both got up and raced over to a fence behind the green landscape. I wasn't even in control of my body I automatically jumped onto the fence and using my arms swung over the fence and into another garden, this one was burnt but I didn't have enough time to take in the scenery, I race through the ash and managed to smash my way through the remainder to the approaching burnt fence. The rest of the houses in that neighbourhood had been almost completely destroyed. I raced at full pace hurdling rubble until I reached the main road. I looked desperately around until I found it 'St Benedict's Church' (the only building still completly intact)I ran as fast as I could towards the Church and slowly but surely regained control, something I regretted because I began to feel pain and realised my perfect stunts were actually terrible.
I got to the front door and had my hand on the door when My whole body lurched forward when I realised I had abandoned Elizabeth, I turned around ready to run back but when I turned around my sisters face was inches from mine making me unexpectedly stumble back and fall into the familiar hall of the church.
