Before they were coming, he left the shed, with a bleeding knee and a journal.
He knows what he have to do; running for his life. Little did he know that chances of survival are dwindling and the odds of remaining alive with limbs still intact is at worse. The pain is too much to bear. He moved from place to place, hiding from the pursuers.
The searing pain of his leg was excruciating. The injury dated back three days ago when a Blaze threw a blade at him and hit his knee. The hot blade that pierced his knee doubled the pain which made it a lot harder to walk or run. He had managed to pull the blade out, finishing it with a bloodcurdling cry that would've attracted tons of the Blaze.
It wasn't everyday someone (if there really have been others) would see a wounded man with a journal in hand can escape the wrath of the Blaze.
At a distance, a streetlight glowed wearily. He saw a house, still in good condition. Before this happened, all houses had to be locked up and people are warned to stay inside of their homes, for fear that the infection will spread. Unfortunately the infection was fast, like a forest fire blazing, thus the name Blaze was called. Hundreds of people suffering. Soon enough the whole town is inhabited with Blaze.
He sighed then tried to open the door knob. Surprisingly, the door was unlocked and he entered inside.
Locking the door behind him, his brown eyes quickly scanned the interior. A bit dusty but the furniture and the couch was still inside, only covered by white sheets. As he walked past through the scattered chairs, atop of the table was a teddy bear that has been used for a long time. He could've sworn that the bear's glassy eyes seem to follow him and it was smiling at him, besides the tears and dust on its fur (like it didn't mattered being torn and useless for years). He shook off the feeling and went on his way.
Taking a deep breath, he managed to scan the whole house. There were four rooms, two bedrooms, a guest room with the bathroom next to it. Just like in the living room, everything inside them were covered with white sheets.
Making sure the house is well secured, he went to the bathroom to look for a first aid kit. He had hoped the wound wasn't still infected. He saw a broken mirror cabinet, the shower curtains with holes in them and the bathtub with red liquid dried at the brim strangely smelling like blood, or so he thought.
Quickly rummaging inside the cabinet, luckily he found gauze and cloth that are enough to patch up his wounds. He'd also put on disinfectant, which didn't seem to help alleviate the pain. After wrapping his knee with white cloth, he went to the bedroom. He became quite exhausted in his journey, he'd nearly pass out but that wasn't the option. He took his journal and started writing.
Its been two weeks since the Blaze infected everyone. The whole town is deserted, no sign of human activity. I keep searching for supplies but to no avail. Three days ago a Blaze threw a knife at me and hit my leg. I thought my leg would be paralyzed forever but I took out the blade myself. Anyways I've found this house. It looks nice, no damage but it feels lonely inside. I don't know if there are still others living or I might be the only one left. I'd hope by tomorrow, I make it out of here......if I'm still lucky.
So please....if you ever found this journal, know that there is still someone surviving. I don't know who you are or if you'll ever see me, this journal is the only proof I exist. I wouldn't mind if I am to be forgotten. Maybe the next chapter will be written with a twist. Remember stay alive. But he wasn't giving up hope. He believe he'll still live. There was still light at the end of the tunnel and someone who is determined will have to endure.
He would never forget what he saw earlier. A bird with a broken wing, struggling to fly despite its misfortune.
And such thing motivated him.
