The day I died

The cool wind hit the moving car with almost a whiplash. The weather alone would have stopped most from daring to venture out into the frozen city. Bright, blurred lights and the darkness ahead was all that could be seen. It might have just been the alcohol which still rested in my system making the movements slower and bleary.

"I'm so happy that you came with me this time Ella. I've always wanted to go-" He put his chilled hand on mine and looked at me with shining beautiful eyes. "with you."

I let out a wild giggle. My eyes having trouble focusing on the charming male who sat just next to me. He was so warm compared to everything else.

"Well, is this your proper confession for me Damon?" Slurred but meaningful words slowly escaped my paling lips.

His dancing gaze drifted back to the road. I watched as if it was in slow motion, his face turn to fear. Blinding lights suddenly surrounded me and a distant noise rang in my ears.

My lower body felt numb and even with all my power I was unable to move. Then the agony set in. I tried to scream out but was unable due to a heavy weight pushing me down. It was then that red and black was all I could see.

"Damon!" I tried yelling terrified of the sight before me. He was covered in crimson red and glistening glass. Through the sharp pain that was now all I could feel I saw his bloody hand creep closer towards mine.

I couldn't breathe.

"I loved-" He gasped for one more breath. "you Ella." His chest fell and his eyes followed.

"Damon! Don't you dare leave me!" I tried to scream but all that escaped was whispers. I laid, losing breath, and was unable to do anything but watch as this young boy full of life slowly died. It caused my heart to be the thing that hurt the most. My face was smothered with tears as his head dropped.

"Damon! Damon! Damon!" I begged in my mind, unable to make a sound.

Then a piercing noise crept closer from the distance. The lights followed soon after, but I knew, the clock had already stopped.

I felt my heart beat slow. I closed my stinging eyes and held his hand with my last amount of strength as everything went faded to the inevitable black.

 It was cold. So cold.

-

It was grey. So very dim and grey. The evening clouds had blocked out the suns powerful light. It was still hypnotising to watch the subtle movements of the slightly different shades. I continued to look at the moving colour before realising I had no idea where or even when I was.

Sitting up it was dark but colourful at the same time. Mixes of colours shone through the deep gloominess that the black created. The tall, lean trees were gently flowing with the breeze and the silence was horrifying.

Black was walking towards me. Black and what seemed to be a splash of white. It took me a moment before registering the figure as a person. A person with a very familiar face. There was something off though, this face had never looked so empty.

Damon fell to his knees and streams of tears ran down his face. His arms dropped to his sides and gripped onto the thinned grass around him.

"Why didn't they save you first!?" He cried out in pain. His raspy tone made it obvious this wasn't the first time he'd been here.

The words took their time to piece together what he meant. Then it all clicked, the memories, I knew now what had happened and why he was in such a horrible state.

I looked down slowly at myself, only to see nothing.
