Chapter Four

The next couple of days were surrounded by going into town and getting a plan worked up, and Caleb and I sharing our last small moments together before we had to get up for the day.

But last night was different. I had the worst nightmare that actually felt real. It wasn't about Caleb though. Someone I haven't seen in almost a year, someone who I thought would be my mate, but turned out to only be naive. The one who stupidly risked himself to try and save me which it would have only gotten us both killed.

Jake.

He was last seen on the border of Mexico when we moved to Wyoming.

My dream felt so real because it was real at one point. Nick, the crazed wolf hunter that was after my father and I for so many years, was torturing Jake in front of my eyes. Except it wasn't Nick, it was Jake himself. He was the one hurting himself, or at least thats who I saw. Maybe his wolf? But it was a nightmare, not just seeing your best friend that you haven't seen in forever, but the part of him hurtin himself.

For what reason would he do that? I know the pain of us moving and not sayign goodbye would hurt him but would it throw him to that extent to hurt himself?

I decided not to tell Caleb about my dream. But then the next four nights the same dream but different ways to kill Jake.  I woke up in wet sweat and Caleb wet as well. But he didn't wake up, only held a tighter grip on me.

Even though I tried not to think about my dreams I could'nt help thinking about when I first had a vision like dream. When I saw Jake and I mating but really, it was something that happens only once in a while to some wolves. It happened to be me.

I guess you couldn't say why or what it means, but all I know is that Jake is in trouble.

"So what are we doing today?" I ask Caleb as I walk down the stairs and into the kitchen where everyone sits talking. Caleb, Dad, Matt, and Mica, Bella's mate, look at me like I'm crazy. "I don't think its a very good idea for you to come along this time." Caleb, surprisingly, says to me and I give him a look of confusion.

He gets up and walks me over to where the others can't hear, but I know they can. "You've been waking up, nightmares." I give him a surprised look and he nods. "I know that you don't sweat in your sleep, Skylar." He says with a worried look but then it wipes clear. He rubs his nose on mine and gives me a light kiss on the lips.

"Just relax today. There probably won't be anything good out today anyway." Caleb assures me but I know I want to find something. "Okay." Is all I say.

I hang on tight to Caleb until they leave. Leaving me home alone.

I don't do much, clean the house, walk around looking at all the pictures I didn't know we had at the old house. When it turns dark I know they had to have found something. They've been gone all day.

I go upstairs to Caleb and I's room and plump on the bed exhausted from my lazy day. I look out at the window where the moon shines bright and full. Caleb and I were going to spend the family time on this full moon but I see that isn't going to happen.

I lay back and try to forget about this whole mess.

Its the faint cry of a wolf that wakes me up in an alert.

I jump off of the bed and open the window. I try and listen harder but all I hear are crunches of the woods and some staggered breathing. No one I recognize from the pack. I jump out swiftly of the window and land on my feet. I take a quick breath and run into the woods.

I run fast wanting to catch whatever and whoever was watching me. I know they were watching me, or else they wouldn't have gotten that close to a well lit house. I run fast running out of breath fast.
