Chapter Ten
Saturday
I am up before six waiting for Tate to arrive. I made coffee and some brownies even though he probably won't touch them. Caleb wakes up at six-fifteen and I look at him as he sits by me also staring at the door.
By seven o'clock Tate shows up. His hair blacker then ever and also grayer, his eyes dark, he has bags under his eyes. Something has gone wrong.
Tate breaks down the obvious right away retelling our story of how Jake thought he could save me from Nick but didn't pan out. Then the real stuff hit the fan.
"When Nick was destroyed, or before he was, he put some kind of tracker in Jake to make sure he kept an eye on him. But what he didn't know was when Nick died, having the same tracker in himself, the tracker in Jake would trigger something." Tate stops and I shake my head.
"So what does it mean?" I ask him wondering if we could possibly get the tracker out. Though it might have already disintegrated. "Since Jake wasn't human the tracker was dismissed by our healing and made it stay in Jake's skin, making him ravenous since it couldn't be destroyed. When ever Jake gets mad he destroys things. Everything around him is heightened." Tate says and its all clear now.
"Is there a way to get it out of him?" Caleb asks but I already know the answer. "Not really. It probably already has been destroyed by his antibodies." Tate says.
"So he's Nick's zombie." I whisper and shake my head. "So there is nothing we can do about it." Caleb says what every one is thinking. "Don't say that." I turn to Caleb already knowing that he doesn't have hope in Jake like I do.
"He's right. There isn't anything we can do. He will only get worst and as he does he gets stronger." Tate shrugs and I shake my head. "There has to be something." I break off not really sure what to say now.
"They gave me until Thursday. I can do something. Maybe even get him some help or even try and see if he remembers anything." I mumble on naming off ideas but they don't listen.
"Its over with. I'd like to see him one more time before..." Tate gets up and Caleb shows him down to the basement. I am puzzled. Is it really over? There is nothing left to do for him?
Caleb joins me as Tate talks to Jake. I wonder what they are talking about. "You okay?" He asks me turning my body his way. "No." I scoff and look at Caleb's eyes. "I don't know what to do." I shake my head and set my hands over my face. "If he would have never went to Nick. What the hell was he thinking?" I growl.
"Hey. If you want we can go back to our cabin so you don't have to be here." Caleb says stroking my head. "No." I whisper not wanting to leave. "Hey. Hey!" Caleb picks my head up and I turn away. "Look at me." He says sternly and I do. "Jake will be much better once he is away from all of this. You really think he will want to live with all those people he murdered? This will be an escape for him." Caleb's words make sense but I know its not right.
I kiss him and then Tate joins us.
"I really think I should go. I don't want anything to do with this. I have to go I'm sorry." Tate says touching our shoulders and then leaving.
I look at Caleb. "I wonder what they..." Caleb shush's me before I can finish my sentence.
"Listen." Caleb says and I do.
As everything in the house is quiet you can hear faint sobs coming from down the stairs. And that strikes an idea in my head.
I look at Caleb and start to whisper hoping that Jake doesn't hear me. "Maybe since he feels something for disappointing Tate we can use that to get him better?" I ask him wondering if that would work. Caleb's face is unsure. "I don't think he really means to be like this. He could snap any minute. Its not a good idea." Caleb says getting up and pulling me to my feet as well.
"Just give him a few hours today to cool down. Then you could maybe go down and talk to him." Caleb says kissing my neck softly making goosebumps appear. "No." I whisper with a smile but I'm also serious. "Don't worry I'm not going to do anything. I just want to make sure we are okay from last night..." Caleb pulls away from my neck but keeps his hands at my waist.
"I just don't want you to get hurt." He says with a seductive smile. "I think the only one that is going to hurt me is you." I tell him wondering if he would ever run out on me. I've had to many people do that. I shake my head and Caleb brings my face up to his. He smiles and then places a sweet, soft kiss on my lips.
"You know I would never hurt you or let anyone hurt you." He whispers and then puts another sweet kiss on my lips. "I know, but I think we should leave the whole feeding on you out." I tell him arching my eye brow and he shakes his head. "Its still in the contender box." Caleb says and picks me up and I wrap my legs around his waist.
We share a few more kisses before we are welcomed by Jade and Sam and Bella and Mica. "Where's Matt?" I ask Sam and they shrug. "He's been MIA all week." Bella adds hanging tightly onto Mica who doesn't seem to have any more scars. I look at them, they have all grown up so fast even though they are older then me. I wonder how much I have changed.
"We were going to go out and find him, he probably went to town." Sam says kissing Jade's head. "Wanna join?" He asks and I look up at Caleb. "Sure!" I say glad to get out of this house.
"Actually I need you to stay here with me. We're talking babies!" Jade grabs my hand and leads me into the living room with Bella not far behind.
"So, see you later?" Caleb asks with a weird look on his face. "Yes I will!" I tell him hoping he comes back the same way he was this morning. Loving, wanting to touch me, kiss me all over. I love that side of him.
"So, when are you due?" I ask Jade and then they suck me into their plan.
