"Once upon a time there was a kingdom ruled by a queen. She ruled with no king by her side, she absolutely hated men, couldn't stand them. One day a strange man came to the kingdom and requested a visit with the queen. The queen denied him, for she would never hold a meeting with any man. The man tried for five days, but each time she denied him. On the sixth day he tried again to meet with the queen, when she refused yet again he showed up in her throne room. Startled the queen demanded him to leave. "No", he simply replied. "What do you mean no! I am your queen!" She screamed at the man. "You are no queen of mine", the man clearly stated, walking towards her, "you wouldn't even allow me counsel with you". Disgusted with the mans presents she ordered him to leave, when he refused she called in her guards. "I wil not leave until he tell me why you wouldn't speak with me!" He yelled as he was being dragged away, the queen ignoring him. "Was it because I look like a man!" He screamed.
"Look like a man? Look like a man! you are a man!" The queen blazed with fury, "You look like a disgusting pig, you're filthy, arrogant, evil, and I hate you! I hate men!" The guards stopped, for they were frozen in a spell, the man started laughing and smoked welled up around him. The queen stood by her throne in shock as the 'man' turned into a young girl. "Oh, wrong chose of words Queenie", the imposter laughed hysterically, she was dressed in all black, and she almost looked exactly like the queen, but younger. "You really don't understand what you just proved to me Miss. Queenie", the girl started towards the queen but was stopped by an invisible force, the smile melting off her face. "What? You don't think I don't know magic either?" The queen looked terrified, like she didn't even trust that her abilities would stand. "Oh you're in for it now!" The girl screamed, erupting the throne room in green flames.
"I bet you don't even remember!" She flashed towards the invisible wall again smacking it. "Remember what?!" The queen yelled. "Remember him! The man you put to death! My father!" The girl made an inhuman noise and continued to thrash towards the invisible wall, again and again. "Add? Little Add?" The queen asked. The girl, Add, stopped and stared at the queen. "You do remember?", a sly smile escaped the girl as she continued, "This will be even better now that you remember", Add started giggling, then she appeared next to the queen. Stunned the queen tried to move back but almost fell off the platform she was on. Add grabbed the queens arm and held her suspended on the edge. "What do you want from me Add", the queen asked. "I wan't you to know what it feels like to never see someone you care about again!"
"What are you going to do to me?" She asked panicked. "Simple, I'm going to bless you with a child, a male child," She smiled wickedly, "and you will love him more then anything you have ever loved before,' and speaking only to herself she added, "which probably hasn't been much". Add returned he attention to the queen and continued with her curse, "And once he's born, I will lock him up and you will never see him, ever!" The queen, who has never had children herself, looked unfazed, even disgusted by this 'curse'. "You expect me to care about a male child? Come on dearest Add, you should know your stepmother better then that". Add burst with anger and pulled the queen closer to her, "you are not my stepmother! I hate you and you deserve to die for what you did!"
Add started chanting, the queen began to feel sick. Add started to glow brighter as her words continued. When she finished she disappeared in a flashing green flame. The queen and the guards had no memory off the event. The only trace off the meeting with Add was the fact that the queen was caring a child. A male child to be exact. Nine months later the child came, he was a healthy boy and they named him Jack. The queen had never felt this much love towards anything. She was sleeping when she herd the door open, startled she opened her eyes and was shocked to see a women standing there. She was about to ask the women her name when she recognized her as Add. And everything that happened that day came back to her and she held on to her son tighter saying no over and over again. With out saying anything, Add walked up and took the queens baby away. No one ever saw Jack again."
"What? Was that the ending mum?, a tiny little girl named Adelaide, who was way past her bedtime asked.
"Not all stories have happy endings Lai" he mother warned.
"But mummy, that ended so horribly! The queen never saw her baby again! That's just so sad." Adelaide trailed off.
"Now don't be sad Lai," Her mother grabbed both of her hands, "do you want to know the real ending?" Adelaide nodded her head in agreement. "Okay, only if you promise to go to sleep tonight", he mother smiled down at her, causing Adelaide to giggle.
"The queen cried for days and days, months even. She felt as though her heart had been taken out of her. One day when she was crying in front of her sons crib, Add appeared in front of her. The queen looked up and Add was taken aback by the look the queen gave her, it was a look of pure loss and destruction. Add felt a pain in her heart for her stepmother. They stared taking and Add made a deal with the Queen. "I will let you raise your son until he is 17, but at the end of his birthday I will take him away to the realm he is in now. For I cannot let you off, you deserve to be punished" Add looked at the queen hoping she understood, the queen nodded. Add grabbed the queens hand and then told her she would be right back. Add was only gone for only a few minutes. When she returned she held a baby boy in her hands. The queen fell on the floor crying with joy.
17 years passed and it was the boys birthday, the queen seem overly happy. She was trying to mask the fact that she knew he would be gone by tonight. She sat her son down and told him the entire story, know being able to remember it. Just before midnight Add came to get Jack. Add looked much older then she had 17 years ago. She looked almost as old as the queen herself. The queen and Add were on good terms now, but the queen still needed to pay her debt to Add. Just before Add took Jack to the other realm she made a deal with the queen that every year on his birthday he could visit the real world to see her. This made the queen happy and for the next 40 years the queen got to see her son. Though she aged he never did. The only time jack ever came out of the realm not on birthday was the day his mother died.
Even though his mother was dead, he still visited the kingdom once a year. With is mother dead Add allowed him to visit when ever he wanted, but he only visited on the day he was suppose to. Soon though Add died, and since the curse was still active and she wasn't there to allow him passage, he was trapped every day except one."
"The End."
"Mum?"
"Yes?" Her mother responded as she tucked Adelaide in bed, "What is it dearie?"
"That wasn't a happy ending." the little girl stated. Her mother laughed and told her that it was better then the first ending. The little girl agreed, she said her goodnight to her mother and when her mum was leaving she asked her the question that had been on her little 6 year old mind.
"Mummy? What day was the boy allowed to come out on?" Her mother sighed and made Adelaide promise to go to sleep if she told her. The little girl promised.
"Okay, but remember Lai, you promised to go to sleep. You cannot get up later tonight and wake your father or me up, okay?" The little girl nodded and her mother continued, "he was only allowed out on December 25th, because that was the day he was born Lai, now go to sleep". Her mother smiled to her, then got up, turned off the lights, and shut the door.
Adelaide spent what felt like hours, but was only mere minutes, thinking about the fairy tale her mother had told her. She wished it had a happier ending. She fell asleep and dreamed of the kingdom, the witch named Add, the sad Queen, and of the prince name Jack.
