I walked closer to the edge, and glanced down. The dark water sloshed around. The sky rumbled and the rain got worse. The wind picked up and carried around the smell of the earth. Grass. Flowers. Soil. All of it wafted up into my nose as I inhaled. During such a terrifying storm and terrible day, how can it smell so nice? How can it smell like my mother's garden? Just like that day...
I shook my head, trying to clear the cluttered mess. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered right now.
Just do it. Take the step.
I inhaled again, gathering up the last ounce of my strength. Its okay now.
"I'm sorry, Mom," I said as loud as I possibly could. My words got lost in the sound of pattering rain. The wind howled and grew stronger, whipping my wet hair around. I took a step forward. "I'm sorry."----------------
