Friendship.  The term is derived from the word "friend," which Oxford English Dictionary defines as, "A person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations." However, being friends does not mean that they have to be exactly alike, four girls from the small city of Hillwood, Washington challenge that statement. They have been friends ever since they can remember and have never spent a summer apart...until after their graduation.

Helga Pataki is known for her outspoken behavior; she is not afraid to speak her mind or to kick ass if you mess with the people she loves. She is not one to talk of her actual family and if you hear her mention a family, she is mentioning the tightknit group of friends she has known for practically her whole life. Helga was given an acceptance letter to study abroad in Paris, it is a two month program and the main reason for going is to search for her long lost sister, Olga.

Phoebe Heyerdahl is the oldest of the four friends, however, she comes off as the youngest due to her innocence and shy nature. After graduation, she has decided to spend her summer in a practical way; applying to Ivy League Colleges while working for the local library near the capital, over an hour away from home.

Lila Sawyer is the youngest of the friends and has never uttered a bad thing in her life. She is commonly known for lecturing her "sisters" for saying "swearsies" as she calls it. While appearing as the most innocent of the group, she is the only one who has had sex and is currently pregnant with a girl, due by summer's end. She was accepted into Julliard for an acting career. Despite being super excited, Lila can't seem to shake the sadness that it's over 1000 miles from her friends and family.

Patricia (Patti) King is a tall girl who has battled weight issues her whole life, she is the most intimidating yet the most insecure of her friends. She is staying home for the summer to take care of her dying father; doing so, she has decided to spend her time working at the local diner in town.

What do you do when the people you need most are over 100 miles away?
