Chapter 4: Can You Keep a Secret?

Lila arrived in New York around 6 pm that night and was instructed to await a shuttle to the campus. According to the brochure, freshmen who she would be rooming with were to be in there with her. She checked her watch and her phone decided to have a near panic attack in her purse. "Shoot!" she mumbled while scrambling through her purse for her phone. She smiled when she saw Helga's face light up her screen. "Helga?!"

"Hey Julliard," she giggled on the other line, "what's up? You there yet?"

"Yeah I just got here," Lila smiled, "wait, where are you? Aren't you on a plane?"

"Naw," she could hear voices from the other end of the phone, "we are switching planes so I have an hour stuck here in Chicago."

"Chicago?"

"Yeah, apparently some asshole decided to go crazy on one of the flights so all were stalled." Helga sounded so nonchalant that Lila automatically knew something was up.

"Helga, is there something you don't want me to know?"

"No, I just...I don't know, I feel like there is something big that's gonna happen in Paris, ya know?"

"Maybe you'll meet a French man named Pierre and fall madly in love!"

"Yeah, the odds of anyone falling for me is about the same as an elephant mating with a moose." Lila could feel Helga rolling her gray eyes and laughed.

"Well, then I guess we'd have a lot of mooselephants soon!"

"Oh you are too funny, when does your comedy act open?"

"Friday through Sunday, 8 pm." Lila smirked.

"Man I miss you, Julliard."

"I miss you too, weirdo." Lila's happiness fell as she saw a trio of girls holding a sign with her name, "I think my ride is here, I'll email you later!"

"You better!"

"You got it, Blondie! Bye!" She hung up and ran over to them. "Hi, I'm Lila Sawyer."

The first to say anything was the tallest girl with mocha skin, shiny black hair and striking hazel eyes, "Hey hon, I'm Skylar Jackson. Everyone calls me 'Sky' though."

"Pleasure," Lila grinned, her green eyes sparkling.

The girl to Sky's right pushed her dirty blonde hair away from her blue eyes and grinned, "Hi, I'm Hailey Sanders! Nice to meet you!" Before Lila could say anything, she was quickly enveloped in a hug.

"Easy there, Hailey...I wanna hug her!" Lila was hugged from the side by the shortest girl, her brown curly ponytail bounced with every move she made. "I'm Chloe Smith!"

"I-I'm Lila, but it appears they told you guys that." She flushed embarrassed.

"Girlie, there is no need to be shy!" Chloe shook her head, "we don't bite!" Lila smiled, grateful that she didn't get crazy roommates.

"Come on, campus has a lights out policy for freshmen!" Sky hooked her arm with Lila's and gently pulled her towards the cab, "Let's go!"

Nearly 2000 miles away, Patti was getting ready for work. "Okay, dad, I have the phone right in reach for you, Mrs. Rosetta is in the other room doing work, what else is there...oh! We have bananas! Do you want one?!"
