It had been two and a half days since the Queen had brought Charlotte into her home. She had been treated almost as well as when she was still a princess. In that time she had been given a room bigger than she had seen in almost a year, which is about how long its been since the take over. Never did she think that one day her life would be torn from her and Charlotte certainly never thought that when it did she would somehow end up staying with those responsible.
Anyways, the room was huge and the gowns were beautiful. Right now Charlotte was sitting at a long table with the entire royal family except for the two she she really wanted to see. Kendall, because despite the fact he didn't tell her who he was, insulted her father and told her she stunk when they first arrived she still felt safe with him. It was like even though he was working for the enemy, Charlotte could see that he was doing it for the right reasons. Loyalty and trust for his Father. She had declared the night after they arrived that instead of him changing her mind about his father she was going to change his.
The other person missing was the man she so desperately wanted to see so that she could stab the butter knife to the right of her plate in his eye.
"Sooo, Charlie," said Lyla, Kendall's oldest sister, popping the bubble that Charlotte had been living in since she sat down, "You and my brother, are things serious?"
"Um, I don't know what your talking about," answered Charlotte.
"Oh, come on, you two meet up in the woods. He's an undercover Prince assigned to guard you after your kidnapped from Eric's army. I mean that is just dripping with romance. So, what happened?"
"Well," said Charlotte, "Rider captured me. I tried to run and Kendall stopped me. Then we started walking here."
"Is that it? You two seem so close. He's constantly checking in on you," she said.
Charlotte guessed it wasn't strange that he was still checking in on her. They did spend a few months together and now she was living with his family. Maybe Kendall still felt like he had to guard her. She shrugged her shoulders and the topic was dropped.
Once breakfast had been served the talking amongst the family stopped for a short while, which Charlie was grateful for. She couldn't handle all the questions that she didn't have the answers too. Where are you from? What did you do before you were recruited? Why did you run from Eric's Army?
But they started again once everyone was finished. "So," said the Queen, " For the daughter of a farmer you have excellent table manners."
"Thank you, your majesty," Charlotte said in return.
"Please, call me Adelia," said the queen.
For the rest of the meal Charlotte was very aware of every move she made and tried to put away her royal table manners and show manners more befitting of a farmers daughter. It didn't really work. She could remember eating at a table with Christian and John. They were like animals when it came to food. Susan was better, but it was clear that she had only been taught the basics like sitting up straight, and not talking with your mouth full.
Lyla was probably the most talkative at the table. Occasionally the Queen would have something to say and Alessandria, Kendall's youngest sister, was humming a lullaby throughout the entire meal, but Eric was silent. Charlotte could sense that he was uneasy with her around. He had told Rider that their was something about her that he didn't know. Either he had been bluffing for leverage or he knew more than she thought. Either way she was extra careful when he was around.
After breakfast she was excused from the table and, unlike all the others who had lessons and training all day, Charlotte was free to roam around the castle and do as she liked.
