Nile.
He was young and foolish enough to claim that he, a simple human, could beat any god with his inhumane strength. He raised two cows over his head by the age of three and pulled trees from the earth as if he was plucking flowers for his mother by the age of ten. No one could beat him when it came to physical strength, and he knew that. The unruly child grew into an unruly young man when the only person he cared for, his mother passed away due to disease. He threw a fit and destroyed his entire village tearing down homes and crushed the larger rocks which encompassed his old home. All the plants were crushed under his feet and trees were once again torn down. He didn't stop until months later where many tribes has been thrown away, leaving only dead plants and the dust made from the rocks covered every square inch of his claimed land.
He roamed the earth kicking up what he called sand making large storms of wind and sand, blocking anyone who dare come near his mothers resting place. Without noticing it, his land has spread. As his land grew he did too. More animals and plants died, leaving only sand to cover their rotting corpses. The people called his the evil and his home the Sahara. He laughed and continued to terrorize the people who dare try to cross his newly acquired land. H e didn't mind being alone and hated. He only wanted to conquer, to destroy, and to beat down anyone's will. He's gotten so confident in his own strength that he said the forbidden phrase no human should mutter.
"I rule this land. Anyone who dare wishes to cross it must speak to me! Even the gods must bow to my feet and wish for my blessings! I am invincible! I am god!" he roared to the sky, a filthy grin plastered on his scared face.
"Disgusting human! How dare you destroy our land and belittle us so greatly!" a woman growled out her blue coils burns from a distance, her whole head similar to a flame. Two The woman stood tall and proud, vibrant blue markings glowed above her ebony skin. She held a jug and a golden sword in her calloused hand. She was dressed in a black and white dashiki from neck to her knees, the flimsy fabric the exact opposite from her body. The muscled rippling under her skin shows that she was a warrior, and a strong one at that. The man behind her, equally as intimidating with their menacing looks, stepped forward to speak.
"You killed the life we so painstakingly created with our own hands and claimed to be a god?! Such ignorance! You are unfit to even watch over your mother's grave." he said his voice so deep it shook the very essence of Nile's existence. Nile sensed a dangerous intent from the two and only kept silent. "My sister and I have watched you destroy too much for too long. We thought you would change your ways but now we see that you are too far gone from your sanity. We will see to your Challenge."
"A challenge?" Nile smirked. He loves challenges. He will dismiss the fact that this simple peasant was rude enough to speak about his dead mother.
Without another word the man and woman separated and faced the opposite direction from one another. The opened their jugs and poured the clear liquid into the sand. Second later two large boulders the color of a fiery blue and a ghostly white (the color of their hair) rose from beneath the sand. They whispered a spell and grabbed sand in their palm before turning it into a thick rope.
"We, Akabe and Nayla, the gods of this land, challenge you. We will separate this boulders far from each other, you must find them, tie the rope around both your waist and these boulders, and drag them to the ocean. If you succeed, we will not only forgive you of your sins, but grant the right of calling yourself a god." Akabe said voice clear and unwavering in the middle of this wasteland.
"We give you three nights and three days to complete this task. If you fail" Nayla smirked "we kill you."
Over confident, Nile laughed before scratching at his unruly hair "You call this a challenge? Who made you the gods of the land?! I crush rocks like those just for fun! This will be nothing for me! Challenge accepted."
"We'll see" Nayla murmured under her breath, smile never leaving her lips. They turned and left in smoke. So did the boulders. Nile snickered and went on his mery way to look for the boulders.
Half a day later...
"This is too easy" Nile smirked tying the rope on the second boulder he found. Yes they were far from each other indeed but it took him little to no time to find it when running with his sturdy legs. He is a big man, with muscles to impress any enemy. Little to no sweat ran down his brow and his spirits is at an all time high. Now he has to drag the boulders using the rope. His strides were smug and confident. His brown lips split into one of his many cocky smiles as he hymned a tune his mother taught him, the rope dragging behind him. Miles away from both boulders the rope finally was strung tight. It was time to start pulling.
He faced the direction of the (Mediterranean) ocean and began to tug. "That's strange" he grunted to himself. The boulders weren't really moving as fast as he expected them to go. In fact the only moved about an inch with each tug. Nile didn't panic though. He thought that he had two days left and the boulders would budge somehow. So he tugged, strained, and pulled for hours.
Nile was shocked to feel so much sweat dripping off from his animal fur clad body, turning into little puddles beneath him. He would need water soon but time is running out and the only place for water was the little oasis he made for himself a couple of years ago. In total the boulders have only moved a couple of miles. Panic finally sets in and nile grew furious with himself.
"Panicking is for the weak! I will not die by the hands of those buffoons!" he roared and dug his foot into the sand before giving one great tug after another. The boulders gave one great lurch and moved faster than it did before. With satisfaction Nile speed up his pace, more sweat dripping from his brow. To others, Nile looked like a dark ragging bull, plowing the earth with two huge blue and white boulders in his wake. He works through both day and night when only there was only one day left. The smell of the ocean wafted to his nose.
"I made it." He croaked the ocean just twenty paces away. So tired, he fell to his knees. All the sweat that left his body flowed upwards toward the ocean into the jugs of the god and goddess standing in the ocean. Nile didn't care. He is a god now. He beat them. He was so tired.
"This is your punishment. You may only travel through this land by the river you created with these bounders" akabe said "we will rejuvenate the land around this river and bring humans a new place to live in this desolate land."
"Your wrong doings will be forgiven in year's time when you are long gone and this land green once again" Nayla said
Nile fell to the ground his sweat pooping around the side of his face. Overworked and dehydrated, Nile died right before their very eyes. The boulders disappeared and so did the rope leaving the battered husk of a man behind.
Years later...
Civilizations thrived and grew along the Nile River. The gods smiled to their handy work and greeted the citizens with kindness bringing them blessings upon their crops. Some say, the day Nile died is when the river floods at his highest, trying his best to destroy the happiness of others only to be thwarted by the gods once again. To this day no one could find the conceited man's body and parents shares the story of Nile and how he foolishly challenged the gods.
