Chapter Five

My skin prickled, hairs on the back of my neck rising as I felt an air of malevolence descend upon me. It definitely wasn't Arikos. Arikos probably wouldn't even be able to hide himself in a dense forest, let alone an open snowy street.

I narrowed my eyes and pretended to be distracted by my phone, hearing the faintest crunch of snow beneath pair of boots. The air stirred ever so slightly, loose snow crystals dancing across the ice that formed on the walkway. I waited for a split second before turning around and swinging my fist into the side of someone's head. I stepped back to access my attacker whom I'd never seen before.

He was incredibly tall, probably taller than myself. His long burgundy hair was long on one side, the other side of his head shaved, his eyes a piercing shade of blue. His left ear was completely pierced in silver hoops, a couple of bars going through the top of his nose, and a pair of piercings in his lower lip. He was dressed as an assassin, swathed in black from head to toe with a hood that had previously hidden his face, now having fallen back as he clutched his bloody nose. His eyes snapped fire and he snarled at me in a language I'd never heard before.

He had no weapons from what I could see, which begged the question; why was he after me? He obviously wasn't here to kill me, so what the hell did he want? Even worse, he didn't speak Greek, so he wasn't here to talk either.

Unfortunately, I had no time to figure it out as he lunged for me, but I spun out of the way and got behind him to bring my fists together down on his back. He grunted and fell to the ground, but rolled out of the way before I could stomp on his stomach. He shot to his feet and lunged at me, slamming me up against the wall so I smashed into the electronic panel. I snarled and managed to grab his fist, slamming it into the panel.

He shrieked in pain as electricity popped and sparked. He snatched his bloodied fist back and I whirled around to backhand him so hard that he fell into the snow. Breathing hard, I grabbed the back of his black coat and heaved him up out of the snow, throwing him up against the wall. He launched off of it before I could pin him down. He caught me and threw me down in the snow, climbing on top of me to sit on my chest, holding me down with one hand while the other went digging into his coat.

A weapon? Impossible, I hadn't even seen one, and his coat was far too thin to be used for concealing a weapon.

He pulled out a strange plastic tube and bit the top off of it, then brought it to my mouth. I instantly clamped my lips shut and struggling to buck him off me. He shouted something in that same foreign language and smashed the tube against my lips. I seethed and tried to shove him off me, but he slammed his knees down on my arms and I cursed, throwing my head back against the snow. I drew my legs up and hooked them around his, making his eyes widen as I tangled our legs together and threw all my weight to one side, rolling him off me and scrambling to my feet.

He darted through the snow and came rushing back at me, throwing me up against the tinted windows. His fist collided with my stomach and I choked, gasping for breath, but I didn't have enough time to suck it in as the man forced my head back against the window and poured the contents of the tube down my throat.

I instantly started gagging on the horrid taste of something akin to rancid milk. The taste was bitter and foul and I choked for air and a way to rid myself of the wretched taste. I shoved the man back, which was much easier now that he'd done what he wanted to do. He stepped back and watched me intently as if waiting for a reaction.

Panting hard and intent on beating his ass, I ran at him, headbutting him and dragging him down in the snow. He fell back and kicked me in the stomach, making me choke. I went to slug him in the face when my vision suddenly tilted to the left and I lost my balance, falling off him and into the snow. I blinked rapidly, trying to clear my vision, but it only tilted back the other way and I scrambled to get to my feet.
