Sorry that it is short! But this is just the prologue. To help you get the gist of the story! Enjoy! And vote and comment and tell me your feedback! I want to know if I should keep working with this story or not!
“Be home by 9!” I hear my mother yell as I rode my bike away from home. I didn’t exactly know where I was going but I felt like a bike ride.
In the small town of Winterset, there wasn’t much to see. I loved it here though. I loved how everyone knew each other, which wasn’t always good. I was glad that school was out but that also met the chance of seeing someone that I knew was greater. I wasn’t saying that I wasn’t popular or anything… But I wasn’t James Bond that’s for sure.
You could say that I am an awkward kid. With my nerdy glasses and mousy brown, straight hair that didn’t fall quite right, I was plain. I had hand-me-downs and things from the thrift store for clothes. It wasn’t that we couldn’t afford it, no we were actually pretty well off, it was just that my parents didn’t see the need for new clothes.
As I rode my bike, deep in thought, I didn’t realize that I had entered an alley way. I stopped at the end. Normally all alley ways enter into another street. I looked around. I didn’t know this place! I may have only lived here for two years but I had covered every street, road, and field (which was saying a lot).
I was already on edge before I turned around, so imagine my surprise when I see a girl’s face looking at me intently.
“Hello.” She says calmly in a breezy voice.
“Um…Hi?” I say uncertainly and look around for an exit.
“You don’t need to be scared-“ she says and chuckles before continuing,”-I am not the bad guy.”
I don’t know how to respond, so I don’t.
“What is your name?” she asks. A red alarm goes off in my head. Should I really tell a stranger my name.
A pretty stranger. A stranger that is a girl and your age. A voice in my head says smugly.
“What is your name?” she asks again.
“J-Jake.”
“Hello J-Jake.”
“No it is just Jake.”
“I know.”
“Right… Well I am going to go now…” I say slowly.
“Your mom is in danger,” the girl blurts out. Then she looks guilty, like a little kid that said something that she shouldn’t have.
“Um… Pardon me?” I ask. How would she know if my mom was in danger or not?
“Don’t go home yet,” the girl insists.
“How did you know-?” I ask uncertainly.
“Common sense… Don’t go home.”
“Why?”
“If you do you will be taken to.” Then suddenly the girl disappears.
“Wait! I want an answer! I don’t even know your name!” I call after her looking in the shadows where she was a moment ago.
“Call me Mystery.” A voice says from behind me. I whirl around to see the girl’s smiling face. Then she steps back and melts into the shadows once more.
A million questions are whirling around my head a billion miles per hour. I hop on my bike and pedal slowly towards home. Where had the girl come from? Who was she really? Why was she here? And How did she know if my mom was in danger or not? At that last note I sped up so that I could see if my mom was home or not. I needed to know if the girl was a fake or not.
