"Y-You know my mom?" I stutter the words out.

Alacritas flinches on the word mom. "Yes, Stella and I are close friends. Even Nathan, your erm... father. They must have told you, haven't they?"

I recall my mom telling about Kristina's mother but she always referred to her as Mrs. Simpson, never as Alacritas... until today, at the Chamber of Lamias.
I nod. "What do you know of the Chamber Of Lamias?"

Kristina looks between me and her mother. "Maybe we should sit down and talk."

We all sit at the dining table after I ask Grace to come and help me unravel the connection between Alacritas, those vampires, and Mom and Dad. She was reluctant at first, then agreed by saying "I'm only doing this because your parents' lives are at stake. I'm ignoring Lupus no matter how important his 'talk' is going to be."

Alacritas sits at the head of the table, across from me. On my right sits Grace, and on my left sits Austin. On Alacritas's right sits Lupus and her left sits Kristina.

"See," Alacritas begins. "There are a lot of things I need to tell you, but I need to maintain a slow pace. Otherwise, it might not be good for your health."

I narrow my eyes. "Are you trying to threaten me?"

Alacritas blinks her beautiful almond-shaped eyes quizzically. Her irises shine like the finest emeralds.

"No, she meant quite literally." Kristina shakes her head. "So much stuff might screw up your brain."

Alacritas nods. "Yes, exactly. I will explain everything, and also answer all your questions, but that will be in time."

"Okay," I say. "But at least tell me what's your connection with Mom and Dad, and those bloodsuckers," I look at Austin. "No offense."

He sighs. "None taken."

"I told you I need to explain first." Alacritas shakes her head. "I will answer that, or answering might not even be required after explaining, just... have a little patience."

Patience? It's the last thing I have.
"Very well." I grit my teeth.

"At the beginning of time," Alacritas says. "When the human race started dominating the earth, few of the humans were appointed as their leaders. Protectors of the earth and the Caelestis, or celestial bodies and heaven. They are different, they have capabilities — powers — unlike the other humans. They are known as the Caelestians. Literally meaning 'of the heaven"' or 'celestial humans'. They are called so because people back then believed that they were sent from heaven or any other planet or galaxy. Although, it was much later that they got the name."

What is this? I don't want a history lesson. Goddamn it.
"Why are you telling me this?" I scowl. "I need to know about my parents."

"I was getting to that." She furrows her eyebrows. "So, they have extraordinary powers based on the elements and mortal characteristics. There are twelve forms of the highest gods — we call them Neveims — for the Caelestians. The Neveims of the court usually are:
Sapieltiana - Wisdom;"

"And knowledge," Kristina adds matter-of-factly.

Alacritas nods and continues,
"Bellesra - beauty; Adamireus - love; Solecia - Sun; Lunascier - Moon; Bellator - war; Stella - stars; Direptium - directions; Seisomes - seasons; Moraleas - moral values and; Animites and Nexeles - life and death, respectively. They—"
