(Yato's POV)
I hissed in protest, running along the edge of a building's roof, the ground flying beneath my feet. As the end neared, I leapt up and landed nimbly on a telephone wire, the flexible cord bending slightly under my weight. Why was I running? Well that should be obvious, considering the enormous phantom behind me.
"Smells good." It croaked. It was shaped like a giant frog, shimmery red in color, with a purple underbelly. The eight eyes lining it's head all were turned towards me.
I let out a gasp as my foot slipped and I ended up falling off the wire, the ground coming towards me at an alarming speed. As I slammed into the ground, I rolled, ending up on my feet.
"Where is that little idiot when you need him?" I growled to myself, wiping sweat off my forehead with my sleeve.
'That little idiot' was referring to Yukiné, my Shinki. Shinkis are pretty much dead people who can turn into weapons and obey us gods. But right now, Yukiné was definitely not obeying me.
I glanced around quickly. The phantom was getting closer. Then I saw it. A small spirit, even smaller than Yukiné had been, hiding behind a bush. It was a young girl, a little older than Yukiné's age.
"You, with nowhere to go and nowhere to return, I grant you a place to belong. My name is Yato. Bearing a posthumous name, you shall remain here. With this name, I make thee my servant, with his name and it's alternate, I use my life to make thee my Shinki! Thy name is Tsuki, as a Shinki Uzura. Come, Taza!" I called, reaching out. Two silver daggers materilized in my hands. Both had black hilts and red designs etched into the hilt.
I sprung off the wall of an office building, heading towards the phantom. Both daggers slid easily through the side of the phantom, and it let out a cry.
"You who would desecrate this land of the rising sun. With my advent, I, the Yato god, lay waste with the Taza and expel thy vast defilement! Zaren!" I slashed through the phantom and it exploded behind me as I landed on the pavement. I stared down at the two black daggers. Who was this powerful spirit?
"Tsuki." I said, and the daggers transformed into a girl. She had long (h/c) hair that flowed past her waist and big (e/c) eyes that had a determination in them I instantly admired. The white robe she wore had strange swirl patterns of blue.
I took off my jacket. "Hello, Tsuki." I said, offering it to her. "Are you cold? It's almost *Fuyu so I'd expect you'd want another layer."
She turned her face away. "You're hands are sweaty, there's no way I'm putting that on. You're armpits are probably even grosser."
I narrowed my eyes. "You're like a female Yukiné..."
She frowned. "Who is Yukiné? Who are you?"
I stuck my tongue out playfully. "I'm the Yato god, a god of war! You're my Shinki."
She turned away, looking uninterested. "Someone's watching us."
