Opal POV.

I sat up on my bed and was greeted by Bethany, the only friend I have here at the orphanage.

"Jeez Opal, it's like 11:30"

"Well, it's not my fault you wake up like at 5:00..... Wait 11:30?!?!"

"Yea genius. Get up quickly, Ms. Ada told me that a few people are coming in to adopt today."

"Ugh. I don't care. In two years, I can easily just leave."

"Come on. Just try... For me?" she pouted.

"Fine. But if anything goes wrong, I'm blaming you."

"Yeah. Whatever. Just get ready quickly." And just like that, Bethany walked out the door.

I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom, getting the towel for my shower. I took off my pj's and stepped into the shower and turned it on.

"Oh My God. Oh My God. Cold, cold." I shiver and left out of the shower. Stupid cold water.

I wait for the water to come warm, then step in and start washing off. After the shower, I look through my drawers and find the right outfit.

After I change, I look under my bed and pull out the small silver case. The last thing I have of my parents. I remember getting this for my 10th birthday.

-Flashback-

"Okay, Opal. Listen to my words carefully. Do NOT open this case until the right time." she instructs me.

"But how am I supposed to know when is the right time? Literally, it could be any time." I say with a "duh" face.

"Opal. This is serious. But you will know. Okay? Promise?"

"Okay. I promise."

-End of Flashback-

I wonder when the right time is coming and what's in it. I hold it to my chest and close my eyes, thinking of my last memories of my parents.

Then the door opens and I shove the case into the pocket of my jeans.

"Um... Why are you crying Opal?" Bethany asks.

Oh. I didn't even realize that I was crying.

I quickly wipe away the tears and respond, "Uh. I think there's onions in here... or something, um." I stand up and "look" around.

I mentally facepalm myself. That was the worst lie that I could have said.

"Right... Um.. Well, the people that are adopting are here, so. let's go." She says, pointing to the door.

I silently follow.

Idiot. Idiot.

We walk down the stairs and Ms. Ava ushers us into the line of all the other kids that live here.

"Well, well, well. Look who it is." I hear a voice behind me. Madison.

"Hi, Madison" I turn around and give her a "smile".

"What do you want?" Bethany glares.

"Well, I was wondering why the frick are you doing down here. You know that this time is when people are supposed to get adopted. Not just for hanging out. The door's that way." Madison points to the door.

"I'm well aware, Madison. Thanks."

"Really, because in my perspective, you aren't that aware."

"Well, I would like to see things in your perspective but, it can't stick my head that far up my a**"
