Wolf was scared. That's not something he dealt with often. His tongue skimmed over the sharp canines in his jaw, feeling each razor blade tip. He could practically taste Scarlet's flesh still. Lust and hunger had played him, tearing at his morals until....
No, Scarlet was alive. He hadn't actually killed her, just come close to it.
"Wolf?" The soft creaking of the door scattered his thoughts like a clap of thunder scaring mice into hiding.
"Wolf, are you okay?" Scarlet let herself into the room. Her jeans had mud stains and her red hoodie was filthy. She looked beautiful.
"I'm fine" he growled, crossing his arms like a stubborn two year old. Scarlet pressed her lips together but Wolf wasn't sure if she was suppressing a scowl or a smile.
"Are you still hurt?" She asked, going to his bed and sitting on the edge. He visibly recoiled from her, keeping his emerald eyes downcast.
"I'm not stupid" the ginger grabbed his jaw. Hesitantly, he looked up at her, his eyes narrowed to slits to portray anger. They hadn't known each other long but they knew each other well. Well enough to know he wasn't really threatening her.
"Wolf" she groaned, shaking her head, "you've got to stop beating yourself up!"
"Give me one good reason" his words came out a low growl. Scarlet shivered, remembering the effort he had taken to not rip her apart.
"Well... You didn't hurt me" she offered softly, laying her hand atop his large, calloused knuckles.
She could see his shoulders tighten, "Cinder saved you. Not me"
"You saved me many times before that" she was becoming impatient with his self loathing, "on the train, in the woods, against the other... Soldiers"
The word 'wolf' had come to tongue but tying him with them was a horrid idea.
His shoulders slumped and he inclined his head forward.
"That's two reasons" she told him.
"Not good reasons" he grumbled. She gnawed her lip, tracing her thumb over his knuckles.
"How about this" she turned, kneeling in front of him, "I love you and hate seeing you like this"
His ears reddened and he looked up at her with his brilliant eyes. She cupped his cheek and skimmed her lips over his.
They had only kissed once (well, once on the train and once in prison but the kiss in the prison didn't count) His breath was hot against her lips before she joined them. After a moment they pulled also, Scarlet's ginger hair falling in her face.
Silence was broken only by their breaths and the thudding of blood Scarlet heard in her ears.
The corner of Wolf's mouths perked up sightly then formed a goofy grin. Scarlet held in a laugh as his arms tangled around her.
"I love you too, Scarlet"
