Jessica's POV

I frantically put my car in park and ran towards the elevator and rode it all the way up to the top floor of the high rise condo building, rushing off of the elevator to the room marked "291".

I knocked feverently at the door, but my patience ran thin after a few seconds and I swung the door open, seeing Kris' surprised expression, as well as an ice pack that he was holding up to his blackened eye.

"Jess?" His expression gave way to the fact that he wasn't expecting to see me this late at night.

"Oh, my god, Kris your eye! He did that to you?!" He looked down at the ice pack and nodded, looking back to me with his ocean blue eyes.

I rushed over to him and wrapped my arms around his torso, clinging on like I was going to lose him.

"I'm so sorry about him, Kris. I thought he would have taken it better. It's my fault." I told him. He placed his free hand on the small of my back, pulling me closer to him.

"It's alright, Jess, this isn't at all your fault. It's mine." He said.

"No, I should have known he would do this, he's always been like that." I admitted.

"Don't worry about it, black eyes heal." He told me.

"I'm just glad you didn't break anything." I told him.

"Yeah, me too." He said, pulling the ice pack away from his eye.

We stood silently for a few moments before either of us spoke again.

"Can I stay with you tonight? I don't want to go back there right now." I asked, nervously, not wanting to be a burden.

"You can stay as long as you'd like." He said, flashing a small smile.

"Thank you." I said, looking up to him. I stood on my toes and kissed him, allowing all of the problems from tonight melt away in the moment. We parted after a few seconds.

"Let's get you to bed, you've had a long night." He said. He took my hand and led me into his bedroom, closing the door behind him.

He gave me one of his shirts and a pair of his sweats to sleep in for the night, before changing into sleepwear of his own.

I laid down on the bed, with Kris joining me shortly after. I cuddled into his side, resting my head against his chest, hearing the faint beating of his heart.

"I love you, Jessica." He whispered to me.

"I love you too, Kris."
