Jessica's POV

A few days later

I finish tying my shoes and briefly stretch before starting off for the trail.

I needed to get my mind off of everything that's been going on for the last few days.

I've hardly left the hotel since everything happened a few nights ago, and I'm starting to go stir crazy.

And having Kris constantly just a few feet away from me at most hours of the day has not done me any good.

I'm just hoping that this run will take my mind off of Kris.

And Anthony.

And pretty much everything else that has been stressing me out over the last few weeks.

This trip was supposed to be relaxing for spring break, and just to revitalize myself before I finish my final month of school.

But so far, it has been everything but relaxing.

Anthony won't leave me alone, and there's a boy next door who probably would be happy to never see me again.

I was still really cross with Anthony about what he said to Kris. About how I was just standing outside his door like a lost puppy.

Kris still hasn't tried to talk to me about it, and I've stopped expecting him to.

I have just over a week to patch things up with Kris before Spring Training ends and I have to be back at school, where I'll hardly ever see Anthony, let alone Kris if he makes the team.

I have to stop thinking about him.

He's been at the front of my thoughts constantly and there's no way for me to drive him out of there.

He doesn't like me, and it's my fault.

I approach the trail, having thought about this messed up situation for the duration of the walk from the hotel, and just start to run.

I took my time navigating the rocky terrain beneath me as the trail continued through a dense forest passage, with a small stream running parallel to the trail.

The calm of nature soothed me as I stopped to take a couple of pictures of my surroundings before continuing onward.

The trail went on to wind up and down and along small paved roads and jagged rocks.

After about twenty-five minutes, I reached the trail's end, which gave an incredible view of the clear blue sky that sat over the sandy desert.

I took a few more pictures before sitting down to take it all in.

My mind was cleared, and for the first time in a while, I felt at ease.

After one last breath of the fresh air, I started back towards the start of the trail to head back to the hotel.

I continue to run along the trail as the trail back was different and rougher than the trail coming up.

Suddenly, I feel my left ankle give out on me, as it twists between two uneven rocks.

I feel myself start to fall, letting out a loud yelp and hitting the ground with a thud before tumbling down the hill, getting caught on bushes and rocks all the way down.

As I come to a stop, I scream and cry out in pain as I look down at my ankle, which is limp.

There's blood coming down my arms and legs, seeping through my clothes as I lay on the hard ground.
