I am a simple doodle. I was built 17 years ago for one purpose: to fight cogs. I've been doing it my whole life. Heck, the first time I booted, I killed a cog. This is how it all started.

I instinctively got to my paws. In front of me stood a red dog. He wore a lab coat over a purple shirt. "Hi, buddy," he said with a smile.

"THUNDERWOOF! LESS TALKING, MORE TESTING!" quacked a distant duck. The next thing I heard was heavy, metallic footsteps. I knew what to do, or at least I thought I knew. I turned to face a large cog in a bluish gray suit. His face looked like a purple eagle's. My cable shot from my right paw and arced just so, forcefully entering the port on his back. He sent a flock of mechanical birds at my face.

The birds pecked at my screens. Two of them had the smarts to go for my wire. I tried to kick the robotic avians away, but they were relentless. I felt their master hit the floor with a thud. They didn't give up. I tried to grab them, but I couldn't see. From my speakers came a steady flow of profanity.

I no longer sensed my cable. They must have cut it with their steely beaks. All the while, I heard the dog pleading. "Enough! Enough! Make it stop! Make it stop, I said! You'll kill him!"

Finally, the birds dropped to the floor. I kicked one across the room in anger. The sound of it sliding was quite satisfying, especially after that fight. "That's the spirit," another voice said. Nobody else seemed to hear.
