"Hey Ariel, do you think you can work a little over time tonight and lock up? I have to leave early." My manager, Ben asked.
"Uh, Ben.. It's Saturday, I have to leave at 21 o'clock so I can get to Leroy's in time." It was already 19"35.
Ben slapped his forehead "Shit, sorry Ariel, I completely forgot it was Saturday! I'll just go and ask Kati-" I cut him off.
"Ben it's fine, I can be a little late, I don't think the girls would mind."
He shook his head "No, you go. I'm going to ask Katie." He called to Katie and she came out of the back and asked what's up, "I have to leave early because Timothy want's to take me somewhere for our four month anniversary and Ariel has to be at Leroy's by 21 o'clock. Do you think you could stay past your shift and lock up for me? It's okay if not." Ben and I went to London University together, he's always lived here in London, but I moved here from The States last year, California to be exact. He noticed that I didn't have a place to stay during the summer so he offered to let me live with him in his flat (I still live with him). Then to pay him back he got me a job interview at Starbucks, luckily I got the job. Ben and I were best friends, we always have each others backs.
She just nodded "Sure thing Ben! I'm not doing anything tonight anyways so yeah, I can do it." she smiled at Ben.
"Thank you so much Katie, this means the world to me." He said back, she turned around then went back to whatever she was doing.
"Thank you Katie! You're the best, I owe you!" I called back to her, I heard her faintly chuckle.
I turned to Ben, who was already back to work and taking someones order "So where is Timothy taking you?" I asked and leaned up against the counter, it's been a long day.
He gave me the customers order "Can I have a tall vanilla iced coffee? and I have no idea! He won't tell me, he told me to dress nice, but yet casual as well, so we aren't going out to eat. You know how he is with that," he rolled his eyes and I gave the customer their coffee and told them to have a nice day then turned towards Ben, "and he never lets me pay for anything! I hate being the woman in the relationship. It isn't fair, I want to be the man some days too."
I laughed at him "Ben, you live with me, you're pretty feminine."
He corrected me "Ah, you live with me. Get it right." He laughed and I just rolled my eyes at him. We kept talking until about 20"15 with a few customers coming in and out, then Ben had to leave for his date. He and Timothy were absolutely dashing together.
At about 20"35, Katie came out and started putting chairs up and cleaning up the shop, I joined in.
"Thanks again Katie, are you sure you're not doing anything tonight? I don't want to spoil your plans or anythi-"
She interrupted,"Ariel stop worrying, I have nothing to do tonight, you go to Leroy's and sing your little heart out for me okay? It isn't that big of a deal. It's not like this is my first time staying late and locking up. You don't owe me anything." I glared at her and she smiled back.
I sighed "Fine, and I do owe you okay?"
She shook her head "No, if anything just sing some Lana Del Rey for me." She loved Lana, her obsession with her was so cute. She would always be humming her songs in the back or dancing to her with her headphones on, whenever I asked her what she wanted me to sing she would always reply with a Lana Del Rey song.
"Any particular song? Oh, and are you coming tonight?" I asked
"I don't know yet, I think I'll be there but you'll be halfway done. Oh, and her new song 'Young and Beautiful' it's a lovely song. They played it in The Great Gatsby." She replied
