We're eating breakfast, and Kitty is telling our plans to her parents.

"Okay, just don't let Broo.., ah um, Heather ride Dahlia, and be back before six," says Mrs. Richardson.

"Are all four of us going?" I ask.

"No, I've got a survival project this morning, and so does Pax," Cole answers.

"Well, speaking of survival, we'd better get going," Mr. Richardson announces, "have fun girls."

"Thanks, you too," I say.

"Bye Dad," Kitty says and hugs him.

After they leave, Kitty and I head outside to the pasture. I walked backwards so I could look at the house. The two story home has a faded green roof, and white gray siding, quite the opposite of my intimidating log one. There's a huge Blue Spruce in the front yard, and the green lawn has several giant cottonwood trees growing out of it. Golden leaves dot the grass, and I noticed dark clouds behind the mountains.

Probably left over from last night's rain.

"Here we are," Kitty announced. The pasture is a big, daisy spotted field with a cluster of red gold aspens in the center. The horses graze peacefully in a corner. "So, that's Shiloh, Dahlia, Bubba, Dancer, and Bill," Kitty said, pointing at each horse in turn. "We have one more horse, Royal, but she's in the barn with her new foal," She added.

"They're beautiful," I say.

We lean against the cold iron grate and watch the horses for a few minutes. A beautiful black horse with a white star on her forehead walked up to us.

"Oh, which one is this again?" I asked.

"This is Dancer," Kitty replied and opened the gate. We walked into the pasture and over to the other horses. Dancer followed us.

"The brown one is pretty," I say.

"Actually," Kitty says, "Bubba is considered a sorrel."

"So, does that mean brown?" I inquire.

"Yup," Kitty replies.

"Oh, well he's still handsome," I reply smiling.

"Shiloh here is mine," Kitty smiles as she strokes a beautiful, tan colored stallion.

"Did you ride him when you went out with Thane yesterday?" I ask.

"M'hm," Kitty sighs happily.

"You like him, don't you?" I say giggling.

"Wait, like who?" Kitty asks with a slight squeak in her voice.

"Thane silly!" I laugh. "It's obvious!"

"Oh, yeah, umm," she says slowly. I smirk at her. "Fine!" Kitty laughs, "you guessed it, I like him!" I grin and we both start laughing. I am nudged in the shoulder by something. When I turn around Dancer nudges me again, but this time it's softer.

"I think she wants you to ride her," Kitty says. Dancer starts to nibble on my shirt.

"Okay, okay, we'll go now," I laugh.

"So," Kitty starts, "who do You have a crush on?" We're riding on a wide trail along the river, and I can barely see the house.

"Ooh, can't tell you that," I answer.

"Why not?" She says.

"Because!" I start to say, but am interrupted by thunder shaking the ground, and the trees begin to bend in the wind.
