Yumi had moved to our school a little over two months ago. We were becoming really close friends. Every morning we would meet on the corner of Marianna Street and would walk to school together.
As I trudged up the steep hill I finally came to the stop sign where Yumi stood reading Fairy Tail.
"Mika-san! Guess what?!" She seemed really excited.
"What are you so excited about?" She whipped out a DVD case. My eyes got big and I looked up at her beaming face, "No way... You got the Phoenix Priestess?!" It was the Fairy Tail movie that I had wanted to see. I heard about it a couple of weeks ago but wondered how I would be able to watch it.
"I know. You need to sleepover at my house this Friday so we can watch it! We can have a girls night without Feng and Deshi tagging along!"
"That would be so much fun! I'm pretty sure I'm free." We walked to school in the cool autumn air until we found Deshi and Feng sitting in the grass waiting for the school to let us in.
"Hey Yumi, Mika!" Deshi called out to us. We waved back and walked over.
"Hey guys." Yumi sat on the grass next to Deshi and Feng. Deshi got out his math book and scooted closer to Yumi.
"Hey Yumi, could you help me with this problem?"
"Yeah. What's the problem? Oh, this isn't that hard. See you just have to..."
I looked over at Feng who had bags under his eyes. His hair hung over his face as he was bent over his manga.
"Hey Feng," I poke him and get him to put his head up, "Are you okay? You look really tired."
"Huh... Oh, I think I was up all night. I was reading Naruto. I couldn't stop reading so I just finished it."
"What?! Feng, there's like 72 books in that series!"
"Oh really... I didn't notice." I turned over to Yumi and Deshi.
"So you just have to multiply this and then it becomes a fraction that you have to reduce. Why didn't you do your homework last night?"
Feng's head suddenly pops up, "Wait, did you say we have homework?!"
"It was on fractions and stuff." Deshi showed Feng his math book and his eyes widened. Feng pushed Deshi aside quite forcefully and grabbed Yumi by the shoulders.
"YUMI! You have to help me! What are the problems?! Like something about addition right?!"
"Ow! You're hurting me! And you're yelling in my face. Ew, did you even brush you're teeth this morning?!"
I yanked Feng back from Yumi, "...Mikaaaaa-CHOP!" and chopped him with my book.
"Oh no... Ms. Anderson is going to kill me..." Feng rolled up into a ball and flopped onto his side. When the bell rang we had to drag Feng to class by his black hoodie. He stayed in a ball the whole time while he kept listing off various excuses to tell Ms. Anderson.
After being scolded by Ms. Anderson, Feng was sent out of the classroom to finish his homework in the hall. Maybe it is a bit of a harsh punishment, but this is the fifth time in a row. I don't know when he will ever get his act together...
When Friday finally came, Yumi and I walked to her house.
"I don't think you've ever seen my house, have you?"
"I guess this will be the first time." Soon we came to a light blue and gray house. There was a small front lawn with a tree that shaded part of the sidewalk. We walked up to the house on a stone path. There was a red door that stood out from the blue house. When we walked in I instantly smelled a delicious scent.
"Wow... It's smells so good!" Yumi giggled at me as we walked through to the back of the house where her mom was cooking something.
"My mom is making pho."
"How was school girls?" Yumi's mother was very beautiful with long wavy hair pulled back. She even had the same gentle voice as Yumi.
"It was good. We're gonna go up to my room until dinner's ready." Yumi took my hand and led me up stairs. We went to the room that was farthest down the hallway. And then...
