It was so uncool of me... I had forgotten to do my homework again. The old hag caught me and sent me into the hall to do my homework. I didn't even know what the work was about. It looked like a bunch of numbers...? Well of course they are! This is math you idiot! As I looked at the first problem my pencil stood still on the page, not making a single line. Then I heard footsteps. It was that stomping noise that an elephant would make. Then I saw those old gray converse right in front of me. I started to feel my hand getting sweaty and my heart beating faster. Lora Sobbs. It wasn't that I liked her or anything, it was just nobody liked her. I thought maybe if I didn't move she would just walk away, until this happened.
"Feng! What ya doin!?" She lowered her face right next to mine. Her voice scared me. It was stuffy and congested and full of desperation.
"H-h-hi Lora..." I kept my head down. She giggled that creepy laugh of hers and sat next to me.
"Do you want to know something interesting?!"
"No not reall--"
"Did you hear the Phoenix Preistess came out? I heard Yumi and Mika were going to watch it on Friday... We could sneak into her house and listen to the words behind her couch...?"
"W-what?!"
"Hey Feng?! Can I have one of your hairs?!" She put her hand on my head. Is she petting me?! This is too weird... And so uncool!
"No... Y-you can't have one of my hairs. Cuz... That's just...just..."
"Just what Fengy?" I hated that she called me Fengy.
"Um. Creepy. Yeah, creepy!" She started to pout and shook me by the shoulders vigorously.
"Ahhh! What are you doing?! You're gonna turn whatever bit of brain I have left into mush!" Suddenly she stopped and looked up at me, staring me straight in the eyes. I never noticed how one of her eyes were bigger than the other... Creepy.
"Heh...Hee-hee... I guess I'll just have to take one!" She plucked one of my hairs and skipped off. As I sat there rubbing my head, I still hadn't gotten any farther on my homework. And now I knew Yumi and Mika were going to watch the Phoenix Priestess without Deshi and I. I thought we had planned to watch it together once one of us got it. I'll just have to investigate...
At lunch I told Deshi about my plan. "So you see? They were gonna watch it without us! So I've come up with a plan..."
"Like what? Don't tell me we're gonna sneak into Yumi's house?! That's just as creepy as Lora is!"
"Oh stop your complaining. Haven't you ever wanted to see what Yumi's house looks like anyway?" Deshi stood there for a second pondering the thought.
"I g-guess. But that's still breaking in!" Why was Deshi such a good kid?
"Deshi, we need to have a man to man talk." I sat him down on a bench, "Now see. There comes a time when your close enough friends with somebody that they probably won't even care if you break into there house randomly."
"Well I guess we are close friends now... And Yumi is always happy to see us!" When I finally got Deshi to agree I made him go get the address from Lora because there was no way I was going to talk to her for at least another few weeks. Once we got the address we realized Yumi didn't live far from school so we could walk.
When Friday came we got out of school quickly because we knew Yumi and Mika were always slow. Once we came to the right house, we snuck in through the the backyard. One of the windows were open. We found a ladder in her dad's tool shed and climbed it up to Yumi's house. Since the ladder wasn't tall enough Deshi gave me a boost up to the window.
"Lift me higher DESH!"
"I'm trying! But I'm too short! And you are too! Plus you're heavy!"
"Just lift me higher!" When I finally got in I had to lift Deshi up.
"You got to help me Desh. I can't just lift you up!"
"If I could I would. But my feet have left the ladder and the house is flat! I can't get a grip on anything!" As Deshi was halfway through the window we heard voices.
"Feng, it sounds like Yumi!"
"Shhhh! Don't shout..." I whispered. Then something uncool happened...
