"I, Aaron Clarimgton, am to join my fellow Coronian soldiers in battle. I am a man of pride and honor, and defending the beautiful nation of Coronia is not only my responsibility, but my duty." My father's booming voice declared on a national telecast. My father looked me in the eye, and took a deep breath. "Do not fear Coronia, this war with Genovia will soon be over." He nodded to the audience and then to my mother, younger sister, and me. My mother was keeping her cool as always, but I knew one thing: before my father would leave, she would cry her heart out in a way that only a wife can.

**

"Hunter, son, come with me," my father said after dinner. We walked the long way to the master bedroom in silence. When we entered the bedroom, he locked the door and looked me dead in the eye. "You are not to join me in battle."

"Father, you said so yourself, our nation needs us," I argued.

"I said the nation needed me." I stared at him in silence. "Your mother and I agreed to send Hailey to America for safety."

"What about me? Am I being shipped off too? I'm 24 now, I've fought alongside you before."

"Your mother needs you. That's why you are to stay here and watch over the nation with her." I nodded my head and he continued quickly, "There is only one circumstance in which you are to go to battle." He pressed his lips together, and instead of nodding again, I brought my arms around him for a toght embrace. He didn't have to say anything; I just knew there was a chance he may not come back.

**

"King Aaron Clarington of Coronia has fallen. On the night of June 17, 2034, at a meeting in the Great Hall of Genovia, he was shot 3 times, once in the leg and chest, and finally in the skull. Many believe this to be the turning point in the Genovia-Coronia War, but Hunter Clarington, prince and future heir of Coronia, states otherwise as he joins his men in the battle." I shut off the 5th replay of the news and rubbed my eyes. No time to mourn, the service for my father was to be held after the war, win or lose. My mother knocked on my bedroom door and came in holding a mug of my favorite tea.

"Mother, it's late, what are you still doing awake?" I asked. She handed me the tea and kissed my forehead.

"I couldn't sleep knowing that my only son is trying to avenge his father's murder tomorrow," she answered.

"I'll be home before you know it."

"I know, sweetie. You've always been a great warrior. Win or lose, I'm proud of you."

"Going to battle is what father would have wanted."

"I know, Hunter." She took my hand and half-smiled. "Your father left this to you many years ago. He told me to give it to you should a situation occur when you become the man you are intended to be."

"What are-" before I could finish my sentence, she handed me a silver dog tag necklace with a star.

"Your father had it made when you were born," she explained. The inscription on the dog tag read, 'Hunter Clarington, soldier, leader, a man of the nation.'

     "Why-"

"He always claimed that when you first saw you, he knew that you'd be the man he knew you'd be. The star represents everything that you are meant to be: a soldier, role model, honorable man, father, and king." A stray tear fell from my mother's eye."

"I won't disappoint you or father."

"Oh, I have no doubt about that.... Just promise me one thing."

"Anything in the world," I said to her. She took my hands and half-smiled again.

     "Don't disappoint yourself."
