Hot summer nights called for stripping down to only a pair of boxers before bed. I was about to jump in, when there was a knock at my door. "Hunter? It's Sebastian." I opened the door to let him in, and then quickly shut it behind me. "Sorry, were you about to sleep?"
"No, I just strip to my boxers to walk around the palace," I answered sarcastically. Sebastian's faced reflected a slightly offended look, but it vanished quickly.
"Look, we need to talk, Hunter," he said. I sighed, and climbed into bed. Sebastian simply shook his head. "I don't like not knowing where we stand."
"Sebastian, I like you, believe me. But a relationship? That's not even an option."
"And why not?"
"You know why."
"No, I don't," Sebastian forcefully. "If your answer is because you're the heir to the throne, then you need a better answer."
"How is that not a good reason?"
"Because you're the 2nd most powerful person in this country. You could change the law."
"DON'T YOU THINK I'VE TRIED?" I suddenly began to yell. "IT'S NOT UP TO ME, BAS. IT'S UP TO THE REST OF THE COUNTRY. If my mother or I do something that they don't like, everybody will do what they can to get us kicked off the throne!" Sebastian shook his head in disgust.
"I'm done here. I'll see you on our double-date tomorrow."**
"Hunty!" Kitty squealed a little too enthusiastically when I met her outside. "I've missed you!"
"It's been less than 24 hours," I grumbled.
"I know, but I've been looking forward to this!" I sighed as she bounded happily into the limosuine. I followed, with Hailey and Sebastian at my tail.
"To getting cupcakes?" I asked.
"Jeez, lighten up Hunty! At least we're spending time together!" Sebastian stifled a laugh before adding sarcastically,
"Yeah, Hunty, as long as we're together, right?" I glared at him, and him and Hailey laughed together.
"You guys make an adorable couple, being able to make fun of Hunter all the time," Kitty commented. Sebastian and Hailey gave each other a look and started laughing again. "How is that funny?"
"Oh, you see, making fun of Hunter is one of my favorite pastimes," Hailey answered.
"And Hailey has begun to teach me her ways," Sebastian answered.
"Well, I think that's sweet." Kitty gave a disgustingly fake smile, and I cringed on in the inside. "So Hailey, do you still sing?"
"Outside of the shower? No," Hailey laughed. "Singing is a hobby, not something I want to make a big part of my life."
"Oh. I just remember my old high school teacher talking about how he wishes you could record a song or two."
"He obviously hasn't heard Hunter sing, then. He's really good." I coughed, then glared at Hailey. Kitty looked up at me with hopeful eyes, and I instantly had to shut her down.
"OH NO, I don't sing anymore. It was just a phase."
"Oooh! Hunter! You HAVE to sing for me!"
"No, no, never..."
"Please? At your mother's annual gala?" Kitty asked hopefully.
"That's too many people," I answered. "You've never even heard me sing."
"Well then the gala is the place to start!" I rolled my eyes at Kitty's comment. I looked to Hailey, and she just shrugged."Sing for me some more!" Santana said, giggling. My voiced filled the big, empty ballroom as the lyrics of 'Uptown Girl' flowed out of my mouth. I danced around with Santana, spinning her around and holding her close as she giggled some more with her long black hair cascading down her back.
"How was that?" I asked.
"Perfect as always," she whispered. I leaned in for a long, passionate kiss. I felt her smiling, so we continued to stand there, wrapped in each other's arms... The doors swung open, startling us. As a group of Coronian authorities marched forward, Santana's parents being lugged between 2 large men.
"Santana Rivera, you need to come with us," Chief Parrish announced. I looked at Santana, and she looked frightened... yet guilty.
"Santana what's going on?" I asked. My mother rushed in, as Chief Parrish answered,
"Prince Hunter, are you aware that your girlfriend is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador?" I looked at Santana, then back at Chief and shook my head. "Well, her entire family is. We're taking them down to the station for questioning."
"Mom! Do something!" I yelled. My mother ran to my side, but disappointingly answered,
"Hunter, I'm afraid I can't do anything. This is out of my hands."
"But you're the queen!"
"Sweetie, even the queen has to follow the law." Chief Parrish practically ripped Santana from my grip, and released her to the harsh grip of an official.
"NO! STOP!"
"Hunter, let it go-"
"NEVER! LET HER GO!" I screamed through the ballroom. As the Riveras and officials left the room, I tried to run, but my mother's embrace around my torso stopped me from moving. Instead, I crumpled onto the ground with tears rushing down my face...
