The Vanishing Coffee

Several Weeks Later:

Jason was feeling at home in his apartment. He was unpacked and had settled into a sort of routine. Life was back to normal and, so far, there had been no reason to suspect that Susan's fear of ghosts had any real foundation. That is, besides a rather odd event that occurred every morning.

Jason was one of those people. One of the people who could not function without their daily dose of caffeine. So each morning, Jason would make a cup of coffee and, because he disliked the sensation of burning off his taste buds, he would leave it to cool while he got ready for work. When he returned, however, the cup was nowhere to be seen.

The first few times he assumed he had just imagined making coffee and would brew another cup. Until he noticed that whenever his mug disappeared, it would reappear empty later on. Always in the same place.

Right next to the blue laptop.

Now, of course, he had not touched the laptop. He didn't believe what Susan had told him either, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

After a while, he accepted the disappearing coffee into his strange routine as well and made two cups every morning. Sure enough, one cup would vanish and reappear empty by the laptop. Of course Jason recognized this was probably a pretty good case in which one should suspect paranormal activity might be at play, but he honestly didn't feel like figuring it out. He was just fine with the mystery remaining unsolved and the "ghost" remaining undisturbed.

     And so was the ghost.
