So this is a short story I wrote for my composition class for school. It's about 650 words so it's really short. I hope you guys enjoy it!

In the dark of night, under the wilting branches of a dying willow tree, laid a broken girl. Now this girl wasn't physically broken, she was emotionally broken, heart broken if you will. Night after night she found herself under the same tree, why? Because this is where she met him. This is where she met the man she thought she would live the rest of her life with. The man who told her he loved her a hundred times over. Night after night she came to the tree and prayed to see his face again. She laid under the tree and watched the slender branches, covered in a fresh spring bloom, sway back and forth in the wind. The cold breeze swirled freshly bloomed petals in little flower tornadoes, before drifting them down around her, but never letting a single bloom fall on her resting form.
The girl sighed to herself, watching her breath drift away in little clouds into the cold night. She remembered the times she would lay here with him and talk about their future, they had so many plans to live their life together. She remembered staying up as late as she could, counting the stars and wishing she could count them all. She remembered the night he proposed to her, sitting on one knee and claiming her to be his world forever and forever. As she looked up at the stars tonight, through wet eyes, she could still feel the weight on her hand where her ring used to sit.

"I wanna come home to you..." She sang in a slow, broken voice, "But home is just a place of all our safest sounds." Her voice rang out through the dark night as she stifled her sobs behind her hand. "I wanna sleep next to you, but that's all I wanna do right now..." Her voice continued to ring, her arms weak as she pulled herself up the many branches of the tall willow tree. She climbed and climbed, soon finding herself at the top. The old tree swayed and cracked under her weight, but stayed strong as it's many branches held her tall in its dying days. She stood on the thickest branch she could see, pink petals stuck in her hair as the brisk wind blew across her cheeks. Silent tears fell down her cheeks as she looked up at the sky and her voice rang out one last line. "So come over now, and talk me down."*

A ring, a piece of paper, and a bed. Three things not commonly seen together. Three things he wasn't expecting to see when he woke up that morning. He woke on the couch, something he found himself doing a lot lately. He stumbled through the cans and broken furniture on the floor and into his bedroom, expecting to see his sleeping wife. Instead, however, he found three things. A ring, a piece of paper, and an empty bed. He knew he had a problem, but he never knew how much it had hurt her.

In the dark of night, under the wilting branches of a dying willow tree, laid a mourning man. He clutched a ring, attached to a chain around his neck, and cried out into the silent night. The branches of the old willow swung in the powerful wind, as if nature was upset with the man. The cold wind swirled around him, creating a bubble of dying petals, as it moved swiftly around him in a powerful gust carrying the dying scent of the old tree. His tears were cold against his face as he kissed the ring for a final time and removed the chain it hung from off his neck. He laid the chain around the small, silver cross, planted at the trees roots and cried out for the broken soul laid beneath it.
