Deny, deny, deny.
Dallas didn't know what he was talking about. He was imagining things, he was seeing things that weren't there.
No, not a good idea, I thought rapidly to myself.
He'd see right through me. Act normal, play dumb. It always worked for me.
"Are you trying to think of a good lie?" Dallas stared at me but I didn't let him intimidate me.
You know what? Why would I spend so much energy just to lie to him?
He wasn't worth it.
"Congratulations, you finally figured it out." I said sarcastically.
The only reason I was keeping it a secret was because I didn't want it getting out to my own pack. But realistically, who was Dallas going to tell? It wasn't like he was buddy buddy with Ares.
So what if someone knew? What could he do about it? This may have been his house but I wouldn't be forced to feel small.
I'd been so anxious for nothing. In fact, I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.
"What will you do with this information?" I acted unfazed.
"That's up to Troy." He left the tray on the table and closed the door after saying, "We never had this conversation."
.•*•.
I didn't know what time it was when Troy started yelling in his sleep. At first he was quiet and shifting around in his bed. I only woke up and learned that he was having a nightmare when he kicked off the blankets and they landed on me.
Then he began to talk.
"No. . ."
"Troy?" I whispered in the dark.
He moved around and it was hard to tell what he was saying. It sounded like he was being chased by someone.
"Get away from me. . ." he mumbled in a desperate tone. "Get away!"
He sounded. . . scared. It was hard to picture an Alpha as cruel as Troy being terrified of anything, especially something as small as a nightmare.
This wasn't the same Troy that terrorized our pack; this Troy was alone and broken. His demons weren't done haunting him.
Shane told me that you weren't supposed to wake someone who was having a night terror but I didn't care. My sleep was too important.
"No!" Troy shouted and I hurled a pillow at him.
He instantly woke up and it was like the spell had been broken. Any trace of fear was wiped from his voice and all that was left was anger.
"What the fuck?" He demanded and turned on the lamp on his nightstand to see what was happening.
