"Our eyes were placed in front of our heads rather than behind us so we can focus on where we are going, not who or what we left behind."
~Unknown

*12 years later*
Kenarah kept staring at her owl watch. Her mom was an hour late! It was Friday and she was just ready to head home. She looked around and noticed some of the other kids being picked up by their dads. The thought of seeing kids that had a dad made her tear up. The only thing she could remember was his name. She doesn't even know what he looked like. Every time she asked her mom about him, she would just ignore her. There were even times where she would cry herself to sleep consistently thinking "What did she do to deserve that? What could she have possibly done wrong? That it was her fault that he left. If she was never born, then maybe he would still be around!" Kenarah was still sitting on the steps of the school with her face in her hands crying. Suddenly, she felt a hand on her back that caused her to jump. "Are you ok?", said the soft voice. She wiped her face and looked at the teenaged girl standing beside her. She was short and had dark brown hair with dark colored skin. Kenarah sniffled and looked away. "Yeah I'm fine!" "Are you sure?", the girl said sounding concerned. "Yeah!", she says still looking away. She sat down beside Kenarah and said," My name is Kylen but everybody calls me Ky. What's your name?" She looked over at Kylen and said, "Kenarah" and looked away. There was an awkward silence between them until Kylen spoke up! "So, why are you sitting out here?" "I'm waiting on my mom who is past an hour late!", as soon as she said that her mom pulled up in front of the school. "Well there is made my ride right there! I guess I'll see you at school." Before she could walk away, Kylen stopped her and gave her phone number so they could text.
She got in the car and refused to look at her mom. "Your Late, Again!", said Kenarah with an irritated tone. "I know and I'm sorry! I got caught up at work again. How about I make it up to you? We can get whatever you want for dinner." She slowly looked at her and gave her a shy smile. "Fine!" Her and her mom always had a good relationship, but her mom hated when Kenarah asked about her dad.
After they paid the pizza delivery guy, they sat on some black pillows in front of the table in their living room. They say down and started eating. "Who was the girl you were talking to earlier?", asked her mom out of suspicion. Kenarah looked up and said, "Her name is Kylen. She sat with me til you came to pick me up today. I was watching as the other kids were getting picked up by there dads and I was wondering what happened to my -", she was cut off by her moms yelling before she could finish. "I don't want to hear about this tonight, Ok?"

"You never want to hear about it MOM! You always block me out every time I bring him up!"

"JUST GO TO YOUR ROOM!", her mom said with anger overcoming her. Kenarah ran to her room and locked the door behind her. For the rest of the night, she didn't move and her face buried in her favorite pillow covered in her tears.
