Anna woke up with a pounding headache. Reaching a hand up to her head she winced in pain at the sore spot on her head. All she could remember was fighting with Daniel then darkness.
Thinking of him made her grimace. He was a sorry excuse for a man. Any one who thinks it's okay to hit a woman is. She knew she should have left him a long time ago. It seemed each night she came home late he became more and more angry. His drinking got worse and her friends told her over and over to leave him, but she couldn't.
The truth was...she felt bad for him. When she first met him eight months ago, he was sweet and handsome. Not the kind of handsome that made you melt at the sight of him, but the kind of handsome where when he smiled at you, you couldn't help but smiling back.
She had met him at her best friends wedding. Janine felt it was her sole duty as Anna's best friend to find her a man. She had done the same thing all through college. Cute guy after cute guy, Janine set her up with. Each time Anna gave them a chance, but it never worked out. They were all the same. Each looking for a good time not a good relationship.
Anna wasn't the type to be all serious either, but there is a point where the fun stops and you need to be serious.
It seemed Janine had finally found the right guy for Anna when she sat her next to him at the table at the wedding. Daniel was such a gentleman when they met. He even pulled her chair out for her. His golden locks were so soft and gorgeous. He had these warm brown eyes that were covered up by his glasses. He was a little nerdy, but an attractive nerdy. They talked and talked all through the wedding.
He flirted with her, but was serious at times too. He was the perfect man until the first time they fought. Anna blames herself til this day saying she should have seen the signs. Even on her first date with him was a 'red flag'.
It had all been great. He'd picked her up at seven and they walked down to this little Italian restaurant. They sat and talked all about themselves. Anna couldn't stop smiling. The waiter came to take their orders and had paid special attention to Anna. She just ignored it. She was on a date with another guy. How could he possibly think he had a chance.
She ordered smiling at him politely and he winked at her. She just rolled her eyes, but Daniel had caught that wink and he glared daggers at the waiter. When the waiter turned to him his eyes shot up a little in suprise.
A little uncomfortable under his gaze he mumbled "And for you sir?"
"How about you keep your slimy eyes off my date."
"Excuse me sir. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I didn't mean-"
"The hell you did mean to! Now would you please get me a chicken parmigiana and return as a different waiter."
"Yes sir." He mummbled quietly with his eyes cast downward. He quickly left to the kitchen with their orders.
Anna was appalled at Daniel's behavior. She sat looking at him with her mouth wide open and to match. "Daniel! How could you do that! Poor kid."
"He was flirting with you! I wasn't about to let him do that all night." He exclaimed. " Why are you sticking up for him? Were you flirting back?"
"Of course not! That is still no way to treat someone!" She said angrily. She grabbed her purse and stood up.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm leaving."
"Wait! No, please don't leave!" He begged. "I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have acted like that. Its just you make me feel so jealous and I don't want to loose you after only just meeting you." His big brown eyes looked up at her apologetically. "Please...stay."
