Chapter 2: Ms. Carter

~Maggie's POV~

As we walked into Ms. Carter's class I could already sense this wasn't going to be as fun as we expected. She sat at her desk, hair in a bun, glasses sitting at the tip of her nose, already almost buried in a pile of papers.

As we walked in she looked up at us, not through her glasses which made it kind of creepy.

"Hello class, take your assigned seats please, your name is on a card on top of the desk." I looked around for my name, sad to not see Amelia's beside it, but happy to see Cayden's. I look up at him and wave him toward me, seeing Nick and Amelia already sitting beside one another. Creepy, it's like she knew...

"Good morning, my name is Ms. Carter, and you shall not address me as anything else. We are going to go through the rules in this classroom. Rule 1: NO childish behaviour will be tolerated, any bad behaviour caught will have the principal notified and it WILL be dealt with. Rule 2: NO gum, phones, or devices of ANY kind are allowed to be on, or in this classroom at ANY time, any device found will go into the electronics bucket until the end of the day. And the last rule, NO talking while I'm talking, and NO talking during work time. Everybody understand?"

The entire class nods sadly, MAN SHE'S LIKE THE DEVIL AND THE QUEEN OF DEPRESSION MIXED INTO ONE. 20 minutes into class, and 4 lectures later. We're into algebra, woo-freaking-hoo.

Soon I hear a ding, I look around and think I'm the only one that heard it, but of course Ms. BuzzKill heard it too.

"Okay, who's phone was that?" A silence falls over the classroom.

"If nobody owns up to it in the next 30 seconds I'm taking everybody's phones away until the end of the school day." I look at Amelia and she shakes her head, telling me it wasn't her, or Nick's phone. Next I look at Cayden and he shakes his head as well. Oh. Crap. That devil is gonna take our phones!

"ALRIGHT THEN. PHONES IN THE BUCKET, ALL OF YOU!" the whole class sadly takes out their phones and places them in the bucket. Ms. Carter takes them back to her desk and takes them out of the bucket, one by one.

"Well, it looks like only 1 phone was on loud... Elizabeth, your phone will be held until your mother comes for it, and for lying, you have a 2 week detention. Every break until 2 weeks is up." She says sternly. The girl who I'm guessing is Elizabeth speaks up.

"BUT MS! THAT'S LIKE TOTALLY UNFAIR!" Oh gosh she's one of THOSE girls.

"That is 'like totally' fair because you didn't own up to it like you should have." Ms. Carter mocks.

"But we didn't even know about your stupid rules!" Elizabeth covers her mouth, realising she'll be in even more trouble now.

"WELL MS. SASSYMOUTH. NOW IT'S DETENTION FOR A MONTH AND NO PHONE FOR A WEEK!" Ms. Carter screams. Elizabeth looks like she may explode.

"YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER!" she screams back and walks out, just as the bell rings, leaving her stuff behind.

"Well, it's lunch time. GET OUT!" Ms. Carter yells. We all scramble to get our stuff and scurry out.

Before leaving I quickly grab Elizabeth's books and tell Cayden I'm going to look for her.
