Chapter 9:

Alex coughed slightly, clearing the spit he had almost just choked on from his windpipe before trying to speak once more. His wide eyed expression slowly settled and he tried to stop the rise of heat that overtook his face, covering his cheeks with a red tint from embarrassment.

"Uh...uh...H-hi," he stuttered, unable to meet the eyes of the brunette. Alex's eyes instead darted around the room at waiste level, as he tried to think of a good way to avoid the situation that was hopelessly blooming before him.

"Do you mind if we sit here?" the second woman asked, giving him a lopsided grin.

"N-not at all," Alex stammered, waving at the extra chairs at his table, still almost in shock. As he worked to breathe normally, trying to maintain his usual calm persona, he wondered if the woman, Rory, recognized who he was as well.

Both women took their seats before speaking again, glancing at each other in such a conspiratorial way that Alex wondered if he were about to be part of some prank due to his excessive staring. In which case, he fully accepted the [punishment, but wished it would be over sooner so that he could go back to his normal routine and/or possibly take his walk of shame.

"You seem familiar," Rory finally said, "Have I seen you somewhere before? I'm pretty sure we've met." Her bright grey irises narrowed as she watched his face, lips pursed in thought, and Alex could just see the consternation forming on her face. That she could even remember his face was alone impressive.

Alex's right hand lifted to scratch at the back of his head nervously, wondering if he should admit to just how they had met. It only took him a minute to consider it, but since he was abject to lying, the truth was going to come out anyway.

"Uh...my friend had his bachelor party at SugarCats about 4 nights ago," as he answered Alex's voice wavered slightly, his hand still resting on the back of his neck. Another blush began creeping up his neck, and he could feel the heat rising in his face. Admitting he had been at the strip club felt especially demeaning even if it was to two of the strippers who worked there.

Alex let his emerald irises fall downward from her face just as Rory's eyes lit up with recognition. "I remember you," she said in an airy voice, a smile filling her face that had Alex staring once more from its radiant. "You were the quiet one who didn't say anything," she continued, nudging her friend now.

"I tried to get you a dance with Laci here, ya know, to make you loosen up," Rory said in almost a giggly tone, looking upon Alex with somewhat fascination that Alex didnt understand.

At this, Laci perked up, "I thought he seemed familiar. Hes the gentleman who tipped me just to go away." Both women laughed at this, their heads falling back as if this amused them greatly, and Alex couldn't help but let his gaze trail up Rory's slender neck, catching on her bottom lip as her mouth remained open in laughter. She was beautiful, he hadn't noticed when she was covered in glitter under fluorescent pink lights, wearing hardly any clothing.

"Aheh," he chuckled nervously, "Yeah, I didn't mean it offensively." He couldn't think of anything else to say to her. Couldn't hardly think at all. He'd never felt this embarrassed before, nor had he ever really been attracted to any particular woman.

"Oh none taken sweetie," Laci piped up, laying her hand on the table as if trying to comfort him. The lip piercing she had caught the light and flashed in his peripheral vision, before he glanced back at Rory. She was sitting quietly, her gaze intent upon him and he felt the weight of her stare as it traveled down his body, at least the half that was visible above the table.

Alex chuckled again, a smile overtaking half of his face as he felt the beginnings of perspiration form on his forehead. "I don't think I caught you're actual names though. I'm...I'm Alex," he spoke, reforming his collected demeanor with some effort.
