Chapter 5

I woke up after the second alarm. Not knowing what to do, I peered through the window. Pitch black. It was a cloudy night. I just hope the clouds clear up before the sunrise.

I got ready and headed outside. The clouds finally cleared up and the red sun appeared slowly in the sky. I could roughly make out the faint rays that hit the house.

I considered all the places that might have had contact with the sun’s rays. Not knowing what to expect, I kept staring at the house, waiting for something to pop out or change.

Nothing. Not even a slight little change.

Everything seemed normal. There was nothing to see. I returned back to the house after deciding that making rounds around the house was of no use. Now, I had the whole day off without any particular plans. I knew no one in Wyoming and anyone who knows me doesn’t know where I am. I was alone here. I resorted to spending my time doing absolutely nothing.

My life had changed so much in the past month. If only dad was here. Nothing would have ever changed. If only.

I slept early and woke up early. That was my routine for the next few days. But nothing changed. I checked every little detail on the east side of the house, but there was no difference at all.

Everyday, I would sit outside, waiting for the sun to rise. I was getting tired of all this waiting. Patience is a virtue. I kept telling myself.

But then again, nothing happened. How was I supposed to find where the Coltiss is?

Another day went by. I got a new number and called Dean. It went straight to voice mail.

“So, I am just calling to tell you that I am perfectly fine and healthy. No need to worry. Can you convey this message to Sam and Bobby? Thanks.”

.

.

I noticed that these days, I had stopped having those “dreams”. I guess I ran out of forgotten memories. I still had visions but they were not as frequent. Nothing about Dean and the others. I kinda missed these “visions”. They always made me feel close to them.

Fed up with all those circles around the house, this time, I decided to check the rooms facing east instead. I started with Samuel’s room upstairs. This was the only room which I hadn’t cleaned. I didn’t want to ruin his room. I looked around.

I tried hard not to bump into stuff. It was dark outside and my flashlight was going dim. For the first time, I noticed that this room had only one window facing east.

The sun was nothing but a small ball slowly moving upwards into the sky. I waited anxiously but nothing happened. I went to the corners of the room and tried every possible angle. Still nothing.

After checking all the other rooms, I went outside again to see if I had missed something.

Something about Samuel’s room made me go back. The fact that only one window faced East with such a good view of the sunrise made me think of the possibilities.

The sun had just risen.

When the day begins, it hits the spot
The spot where my precious is locked

Precious is locked. Locked.

Something in my mind told me to close the window. I did. The window in the middle was a bit disfigured. It was somewhat disturbed. I waited patiently.

As the sun went up higher, a single beam of light got reflected and the end hit the pillows. My eyes widened in realization. I hurriedly removed the pillows. Nothing. I reached up the mattress and lifted it up. I saw a hole under the mattress. A small silver box was neatly tucked away inside it. I lifted the box carefully. There were seals and spells written everywhere. Samuel definitely didn’t want the demons to get this. I carefully examined it. I knew it wouldn’t be that easy, but oh-well, I tried it anyways. Nope. It wouldn’t open. It was locked. Typical Samuel.

The lock was a very complex one. I remember Samuel making this himself. I ran downstairs and got my picking set. I quickly got to work. I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate. I tried to bring back the memories. I definitely remember him teaching me about the mechanism of this lock. There was something different about this. A little trick. Something unusual. Think Zenna, think!

I spent the next two days pondering over that small silver box. I was so near, yet so far. Sometimes I would just go out and take a walk around to ease my mind.

Throughout these days, something in my mind kept telling me that I was being followed. I think I saw some people, but every time, before I could make out anything, they’d disappear in the crowd. Day before yesterday, I spotted a man observing the house.

I stayed alert ever since but nothing unusual has happened. I’m guessing they are waiting for something. Maybe the Coltiss? I just hope I’m wrong.  And that they know nothing about it.
