Chapter six
It was a cold winter afternoon at Wolfvintein Street. The holiday spirit was still alive, so the chants of the merry folks and bangs of fire crackers filled the air. A bunch of kids where playing by the meadow outside Wolfvintein when a distant figure could be seen from afar.
'Roger, do you see that?' cried the boy to the right pointing rather aimlessly at a supposed to be figurine approaching from afar.
'That's not a man. Never' Roger replied, shaking his head in disbelief. He got up and faced the others.
Roger loved to fool around and frighten the other kids so he thought it would be fun to mess with their heads this time.
'You guys really want to know what that thing is' He asked, steering at his peers.
'O well, I'll tell you toddlers since you don't know. That's the big foot monster coming over here to eat us. Run, Run for your lives' Roger spoke in a petrifying tone. The other kids got so scared, they jumped and started to scream, running helter skelter, some kids vanished into the woods while they others ran towards the village except for one kid who didn't run.
'Hahaha, did you see their faces' Roger laughed. The fact that he actually pulled it off was really satisfying. He had pulled pranks like this before but not as good as this one. He had managed to trick about six kids today, forcing them to leave their lunches behind.
'What do you think of this prank, peter? Aren't I a genius? You should be calling me a master prankster by now' Roger spoke proudly.
'You do know your so called monster is still coming this way, right?' Peter replied with a stern voiced.
Roger was shell-strucked, he had forgotten about the person that was looming behind him. As he turned, the cloaked figure was already standing behind him.
'Am so sorry Mr., I'm not a bad person, really. I'll stop pranking people, I promise. Please don't eat me' Roger cried as he hid his face under his arms. Roger gawked at peter from underneath his arms; he noticed peter had already taken some steps back.
'Will peter run away and leave me here alone' Roger thought. He and peter where not best of friends and 9 out of 10 will scale the possibility peter might leave him for dead.
'Me, Eat you? You can't be serious. Why on earth would I want to eat an ugly boy like you anyway' a squeaky voice escaped from the cape of the figure. That's weird? Did someone just speak, Roger wondered. He had himself believing the lie he had just told the others unintentionally. Monster. For real? We all know monsters don't exist. Why he had made himself believe his myth was beyond him.
'Quickly, Roger and peter, you guys have to leave here right now, the village is not safe anymore' the caped man spoke. 'It's me, Grimsoth.'
Roger knew he recognized that squeaky voice of Mr. Grimsoth, he just couldn't place it earlier.
'Mr. Grimsoth. What are you doing here' peter asked. They boys were choked with questions, why was he here, why the awful cape? This was but a few questions Roger and peter had to ask him but before they could, he intercepted.
'Don't worry about me young ones, just go' Mr. Grimsoth uttered and gave the boys a push on the back. Peter and Roger didn't hesitate, the rushed down the bush track that lead to the village.
Mr. Grimsoth paused for a minute after the boys had left. A rock stood before a broken branch nearby, the same spot the kids had made a picnic earlier. Beside it were open lunch boxes with meals in them: 'looks like i am missing those little gnomes already'. He took out a neat handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his face. Grimsoth started for the forest knowing that the dark times weren't over but just beginning. So he wandered on hurridly into the forest till he got to an inevitable stop.
'can't move any more, I have been working for days unend.' No more steps; Mr Grimsoth could move no more for he was famished. It had been about two days he was in the forest, far away from his loved ones and the comfort of his bed.
"Where ever could Helden and Axel be? I told them to atleast find a new home in another village but the chose a forest to hide. who does that?" he tried to imagine.
The forest was dark and loomy, tall mangrove trees tower the skies making it pitch black. it was quite; pretty weird for a forest at night it had been as if no creature lived in it.
The scary dark forest people were also going on and on about, Mr Grimsoth thought, it really is as scary as they say I imagine. Trying to get his mind off his fears he took out some magical stones from his pocket. " the Babylon stones with two sides" if I remember correctly this should tell me where to find them.
