Well, here it was.
The moment of truth. You drew your bottom lip in between your teeth as you eyed the pregnancy test balanced carefully on your lap. It was a slim chance that you were pregnant but all the side effects pointed to this, and only this, conclusion. The heartbeat that had been jumping rapidly suddenly spiked as you heard the alarm go off on your phone.
Without missing a second, you snatched the text off the counter to eye its results.
Positive.
You were in fact pregnant.
"Son of a bitch!" You yelled, chucking the test across the tiny motel bathroom.
It wasn't the fact that you were carrying a baby. It's the fact that you didn't want to bring a baby into the life you lived. Hunting things that go bump in the night isn't exactly a profession to showcase at a 'Take Your Parent To School Day'. The worst part was that you knew your boyfriend and hunting partner, Sam, would probably want you to leave and raise the baby away from the life.
He wouldn't want the child to be raised in the midst of all this death.
"Y/N?" Sam called from the other side of the door. "You okay in there?"
"I'm fine," Your voice broke halfway through causing Sam to open the door immediately.
Should've locked the damn door.
"Babe, what's wrong?"
He knelt in front of you. Those damned puppy dog eyes were filled with concern as you let out a sigh.
"I'm pregnant," you mumbled, scared of what his reaction would be.
He leaned in closer.
"Hm?"
"I said," you sighed. "I'm pregnant."
A few things happened at that moment. First, your heart rose to your throat as you said the words you'd been hoping to hide for awhile. Second, Sam went from leaning in towards you to leaning away from you, his eyes tracing over your face. Third, Dean barged into the motel room singing a Whitesnake song horribly. You knew he was drunk and probably didn't think about knocking but he just decided to walk into the bathroom in the middle of this delicate moment.
"Hiyaaa Sammy," he waved at his brother. "And hellloooo Y/N," he gave you a dainty wave. "You two are lookin' tense." He slid down the doorframe until he was sitting criss-cross on the floor. "Wanna let me in on the secret?"
Sam continued to stare at your face, completely ignoring his obliterated brother.
"Dean, can you give us a minute?" You asked softly, looking towards the hunter.
He glanced between you and Sammy. Eventually, he sighed and got up.
"I'll be in the kitchen if ya need me. I'm gonna make me some nachos!"
Dean shut the door behind him leaving the two of you in the uncomfortable silence you had created.
"Are you sure?" Sam asked after a few minutes.
"The test is over there if you want to check," you gestured across the room where the life-ruining test laid.
He reached across the room and picked it up. His eyes went wide as he examined the exact same results you had seen moments earlier. He just took his time looking at the tiny cross in the middle before you noticed his eyes starting to water.
"Sammy?"
He looked up with the most genuine smile in the whole world. Sam moved back across as he embraced you in a hug. At that moment, you knew your suspicions had been totally unrealistic. Sam loved you and would love this child even if it meant bringing it into the dangerous life you two lived.
"I love you Y/N," he whispered, kissing the top of your head.
"I love you too," tears were brimming in your eyes and you knew you wouldn't last much longer. "We better go make sure Dean hasn't burned the kitchen to the ground yet."
Sam chuckled deeply at your ability to change the subject.
"You're probably right. Last time Dean tried to cook we almost had to call the fire department. Remember?"
You laughed as you recalled the catastrophe that had been Dean's last cooking session.
"Of course I remember."
He pecked you on the lips before opening the door for you. Your worries about the pregnancy now behind you.
