1901-1971

Louis Armstrong, trumpet and cornet plyer. He was a influence in jazz, shifting the form of music from collective improvisation to solo performance. With his instantly recognizable voice, Armstrong was also a singer. Also he was skilled at scat singing.

Billie Holiday
1915-1959

Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her music partner Lester Young, She had a influence on jazz music and pop singing. Billies vocal style was inspired by jazz instrumentalists and made a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She made people stop and see what was happening to the world around them.
