        Chapter 1: Bacon and Rythian

Duncan rolled, literally, out of bed and the test tubes on his desk rattled slightly as he hit the wood floor. “Are you OK up there, Duncan?” asked his apprentice, Artemis, (or Art) from downstairs. She was a little bit younger than him, (15)  had brown hair and light blue eyes that glowed ever so slightly, (Duncan wondered if she was related to Rythian, that B@$#%&d.) plus she took care of any mobs that dared to invade the castle grounds. He had found her in a bloody bundle in front of his gates and had decided to take her in. “I’m fine, Art.” he called back down, then got dressed quickly. He shined his goggles and dusted off his lab coat, then put his flying ring on his Hotbar. He jumped out his window and flew to the kitchen, where a wonderful smell of cooking bacon reached his nose.

Duncan instinctively mentally broke down the smell into its bare elements as he walked over to where Art was cooking. He grabbed a slice out of the pan with his power suit arm and, before Art could say anything, shoved it in his mouth. Duncan regretted it immediately. “OW!!” he yelled and Art rolled on the ground, laughing her head off. “Hey,” he said, slightly hurt, “My tongue has just been exposed to 200 degrees of bacon! Give a guy a little slack, would ya?” She, still laughing, went over to the chill chest and grabbed a cube of ice. Suddenly her body went rigid and she fell to the floor, her body enveloped with a green light. Duncan quickly crouched over her, feeling her pulse: too fast. He jolted as a bolt of electricity made his entire body go rigid, and he fell to the floor. “Ha, Duncan.” said a voice, scathingly, “You take my apprentice, I take yours.” Duncan saw a pair of slightly glowing purple eyes, narrowed with anger: Rythian! He must have forgotten to turn the forcefield back on.

That son of a b*%$#@ slung the now unconscious Art over his shoulder and turned away. “What do you mean? I didn’t do anything to Zoey.” Duncan asked weakly, pretending to be more affected by the electricity than he really was. Rythian turned back to him angrily, his eyes purple slits, narrowed with confusion and anger, “You know what I mean. Zoey disappeared yesterday and hasn’t been back since. Teep is freaking out.” Duncan saw Art open her eyes and gave Duncan the smallest nod, so that Rythian didn’t notice. Summoning all of his strength, Duncan jumped up and tackled Rythian to the ground. “I will dissect you entire f*#$ing body!!” Duncan yelled as he and Rythian writhed on the ground. Art placed a good kick to Rythian’s side and he doubled over, coughing. “Why the f%@# did you do that, Rythian?!” she said, helping him to his feet. Duncan glared at her and she rolled his eyes, “As if he can get away from this:” She pulled out her enchanted bow and notched an arrow. Duncan grinned at Rythian, Art was  possibly the best shot in all of Minecraftia.
