Series 3 Episode 13

"Look out!" Percival bellowed as we finally managed to bring the rocks tumbling down. Quickly and carefully, I pulled my helmet over my head, tucking in my brown curls. Lancelot nodded to me. He knew how important it was that I wasn't found out.

"Who's that?" Arthur asked finally, as they all came to their senses.

"Dunno, but I'm liking him already," an Irish voice replied. I grinned. Imagine if they knew I was a woman.

"Lancelot!" A woman called. From how she looks, and how Lancelot has described her, I'd say that's Gwenivere.

"It's so good to see you," Prince Arthur cried. "I'm guessing that rock fall wasn't an accident," he added.

"If it wasn't for the combined strength of Percival and Olly, it would never have happened," Lancelot explained.

"Your Highness," Percival said.

"Arthur," Arthur insisted.

"Arthur it is then," Percival grinned.

Arthur turned to me expectantly. I nodded almost imperceptibly to Lancelot.

"Um, Arthur. Percival and I met when I was away, doing jobs helping nobles etc. One day, we got caught by slave traders. We managed to get out and Olly came with us. But he'd already been with the slavers too long," Lancelot trailed off.

"What are you trying to say?" Arthur asked. Everyone seemed to be listening now.

"He's mute Arthur," Lancelot told him bluntly. I almost sighed in relief. The plan had worked, or so it seemed.

"Ah, I'm sorry," Arthur said, addressing me this time. I shook my head.

"Um, come on then, let's get moving. I know exactly where we can go," Arthur informed us. We all nodded and we got moving. The whole of that story was true, except for the parts about me being mute and me being a man. I'm a green eyed, brown haired woman.

We walked for hours. No one really came toward me, they seemed to be scared off. Lancelot had checked on me a few times, but I dismissed him, telling him we needed to keep the pretence up, for now at least, I knew I wouldn't last long but I wanted to help.

Lancelot sidled over to me. "How you doing?" Lancelot asked.

"I'm alright," I whispered. He nodded slightly. Arthur's servant, Merlin then strode over to us.

"Lancelot, why did you lie to us?" Merlin questioned. Lancelot turned a panicked stricken face toward me and I nodded. For some unknown reason I trusted Merlin.

"Merlin, when we get there, separate yourself from the group and I'll meet you, Lancelot can come to if you want," I whispered urgently.

Merlin looked shocked, but I guess he probably should do, after all, we told everyone I couldn't talk. Merlin simply nodded, then walked away, trying not to look too conspicuous.

Just as Merlin walked away, we reached a rock pile. Everyone started clambering over. Arthur helped Gwen over and Lancelot made to help me, though, remembering the pretence, he quickly withdrew. I knew I wouldn't get over that pile without help, so I resorted to an old trick. I walked up to the rock pile and as soon I was in the correct position, I vaulted over it. Arthur looked at me, impressed.

We only walked a few more metres before reaching an abandoned castle. We entered and scouted around. Slowly, I made my way around the castle. Footsteps approached me from behind. I swung around, almost cutting the persons head off. Luckily, Lancelot, who was behind Merlin, managed to pull him out of the way.
