Just another day

"Mom, are you going to drive to school today or am I going to have to walk?" I yelled to my mom. I waited for her down stairs while she was getting ready. She came down the stairs, grabbed the keys, and walked outside in the cold brittle air.
When I got in the car she started it up. "You should've wore a thicker jacket son. Your going to freeze out their." She pointed out. "I'll be okay,is dad coming home this weekend?"I asked wistfully. My dad has always worked out of town and only comes home every other weekend. Lately though he's been working so much it seems like he doesn't come home for months. "I don't know John, you know how he's been working lately. Believe me I don't like it either, but I know he's doing it for the best." Mom replied.
We sat in silence for a while, while I looked out the window at the stores and gas stations full with people that were trying to get gas or coffee. I was also thinking about dad like how when I was younger we used to throw the football with me everyday after school, but now I don't even get to see him.
When I arrived at school I got out of the car and started talking to my best friend Colton. He was a skinny kid with long black hair, and chocolate colored eyes. He wasn't really that good with the ladies, but he could handle himself in a fight. Last year in eighth grade he fought one of the biggest guys in our grade and won. He earned his reputation real quick. "Yeah, dude I also made the football team." He bragged. "Really? What position?" I asked. "Wide receiver, 2nd string. Kyle got 1st string of course..." He trailed off when the bell rang. "Damnit, I got to get to class. I'll catch you later though." We did our hand shake and ran to class.
First period was always the worst for me because it was language arts. I'm horrible at spelling and my hand writing is just sad for a 9th grader. We had to write a essay on a mythical creature. I think I did a fair job though.
Another bad thing about language arts is there's this big kid named Kenny in front of me and he's one of the most arrogant jurks I've met. He turns around and spits out "Didn't I tell you yesterday that you can't sit their?" "Yea, but guess what I can sit where ever I want so turn your big fugly face around."I answered. He got up and yelled at me "You freakin cunt get out of the seat now or I'm going to make your face hit the seat." I got up this time not scared, but pissed. "You know something Kenny, you don't get everything you want in life and this seat is one of them so if you want another seat one go on somewhere else." I got up in his face. "Watch behind you kid because the worse is coming to you." He smirked and sat down.
After language arts I watch my back for Kenny's goons and wondering when there going to jump me. I told Colton and he said that he had my back, but there's always that feeling of uncertainty. I didn't know if I regretted or felt proud of myself for standing up to him.
During lunch Kenny, Blake, and Tylar came up to me and Colton and pulled me out of my seat. "This is what you get for back talking me,cunt." He snarled and started hitting me in the face. Colton jumped up and slugged Kenny one good time. Just enough time for me to get up and balanced. Colton kept slugging Kenny until Blake jumped in and tackled him. All I was thinking was how much I hated Kenny for running me over all of these years. I started hitting him with all the strength I had, but I wasn't fast enough. Kenny hit me in the jaw real quick and I started to black out. I fought it and kept putting all my strength in each punch. He pulled his hands up to protect his face, so I hit in the ribs. It knocked his breath out. He bowed over because of the blow and I had my chance. I hit straight in the temple. He fell over, face first in the marble floor. I was throbbing from the blows he landed. I looked over at Colton, but he had some bruises. Somehow he was able to fight both of the goons on his own and win. I wonder how he did it.
The teachers ran over and pulled us to the principal's office. I got suspended for a couple days, but it was worth it. They called my mom to come and pick me up.
"What the hell happened?" She yelled at me when I got the car. You can tell she was beyond pissed, because of the stare she gave me. It was like she was looking into my soul. She calmed down when I told her the story. She actually took pity on me.
"Did you know about Russia being attacked?" She asked. I looked at her with curiosity. "Umm... No what happened?" "A bomb blew up in the capital. No one knows who did it,but there for sure it was a terrorist attack." She answered. There's been a lot of terrorism over seas. Sometimes I wonder if there going to strike us next. "How many died in the explosion?" I asked. "It's undetermined they said."
