Under Cover

A bomb shattered the silence of the trio, sending debris shooting through the dusty air. Verena and Jared screamed and Sabastian grabbed them tightly, pushing them under an old broken bed. 

  "Stay here!" He yelled as guns went ooff violently, and very loudly. Jared and Verana huddled together, whimpering. Before they knew it, Sabastian had unsheathed his claws and was out in the distance. Everything went silent and, assuming they noticed him, the siblings made their way out into the open. 

  The sight Jared saw took his breath away. Lines and lines of men and women in tight black leather armour loomed before them, weapons ready. Sabastian spotted them and flicked a hand at them, telling them to hide. They shook their heads, still wide eyed at the army. 

  "Go!" Sabastian repeated. The other two still just stared at the black wall of human looming in the distance. 

  Then all the sudden, a shot rang out and Sabastian had dissapeared. Verena and Jared loked around quickly with wide eyes, yelping. Verena grabbed Jared's arm and pointed forwards. 

  Sabastian was running right towards the army. 

  Shots rang out and bombs flew. Screams of rage rang from the humans, shooting as more human/cats ran out from the wasteland. Battle started as soon as the silence stopped, making Verena and Jared panick. They yelped and ran back into hiding, only to see their original hiding place get bombed to bits before their eyes. They scrambled, holding hands so not to lose each other, looking for cover. 

  "Where do we go?!" Screamed Verena, ducking from a throwing knife. "Jared!!" She yelled as the knife connected with his forehead, slicing it open. He flinched down and yelped as another one hit his arm. Verena fell to her knees as a bullet lodged into her ribcage and she grabbed it, grunting. 

  "Verena!" Jared yelled and helped her up. "No, live!" She scrambled up quickly, gasping as her movement triggered more blood. 

  Jared yelled and whipped around as a bullet dug into the back of his thigh. He looked around with saucer shaped eyes, yelping as something hit him hard in the side. He flipped around, seeing Verena jumping onto Sabstian's back. Next thing he knew, he had scooped up Jared and was running at incredible speed, dodging bloody bodies and knocking people out of the way. 

  "Sab.." Jared looked up at his face, wrapping his arms around his neck. Sabastian's right eye was swelled shut, blood coming from the corners of his mouth. Mud covered his knees and elbows and his breathing was shaky. Verena's innocent face was resting on his shoulder, next to Jared's. They looked at each other in the eyes, staring into the other. Suddenly Verena squeezed her eyes shut, and Jared did the same, tears welling up. He buried his face into Sabastian's chest, sobbing. Sabastian stared ahead squinting and flying threw the battlefeild. 

  Soon Sabastian stopped and layed them down in a hole in the ground, just big enough for the 3 of them. Jared and Verena whimpered and whined, but Sabastian shhed them quietly, taking off his backpack and pulling out  first aid kit. He pressed a cloth against their wounds, kissing their foreheads. "You'll be okay, trust me. Trust me it's okay." He whispered, whiping the sweat off his forehead with the back of his arm. 

  "Nothing bad will happen anymore, I promise." He breathed, bandaging Verena's mid-section. She yelped when he removed her shirt, considering it was sticking to her wound from the blood. Jared groaned and shut his eyes as he slowly pulled his pans off to look at the bullet hole. Tears started in his eyes and he looked over at Sabastian pleadingly in pain. Sabastian shushed Verena and started wrapping Jared's leg. 

   Soon enough Verena was fast asleep, stirring every once in a while from bad memories. Sabastian and Jared huddled just outside the hole, staring up at the stars. Jared yawned and layed his head on Sabastian's chest. Sabastian wrapped an arm tightly around him, pulling him close. Jared shivered and shut his eyes, grabbing Sabastian's shirt. 

  "Sab..?" He said slowly, opening his eyes and looking up at him. 

  "Hm?" He asked, still staring up at the black sky.

  "Is Verena ok?"

  "She'll be fine. We just have to stay here for a couple days untill she's ready to walk again. I'll go hunting in a couple hours, when your asleep."

  "Want me to go to sleep now?"

  "If you can."

  Jared climbed into the hole, snuggling into his big sister and closing his eyes. Eventually black overcame his mind and he was fast asleep.
