Chapter 17

My ears twitched and I woke up as I heard a sound from the barn.

I saw Jake leaving along with Marco and Rachel. I also saw a red-tailed hawk flying away.

I need to check out Cassie, and this is the right time.

I leapt over the fences and entered the barn. As I demorph I saw Cassie sleeping, a human now.

"Woah." I muttered to myself.

She mumbled and turned around. Then she moaned in her sleep and woke up. Rubbing her eyes, she sat and turned around.

"Cassie!" I kneeled beside her.

"Caleb?" She asked.

"Yeah."

"Where are the others? What just happened?"

"They just left recently," I said, wondering why. "And, yeah, I'm thinking why."

"What happened?" She asked again.

I told her all that happened. I left out Jake and my deal with Visser Two. I just did. I don't know why.

"Oh." Was all she said afterwards.

"Cassie, thanks for saving my life," I said as I held her hand.

"It's okay, Caleb, it's nothing." She smiled at me.

Okay. I'll tell her, since she saved my life. I'll tell her. She's worthy of it.

"So you see now, Cassie-" I started.

But I heard Jake, Marco and Rachel coming back. "It's them! I need to go! Until next time!" I hugged her, went through the other door, and morphed into a wolf and bounded away.

I turned around when I'm far enough to be seen, I saw them walking away, laughing, heading to their own houses and soon to their own beds.

While I retreated quietly into the forest.
