I turn to Taya and we look each other, internally squealing.

"Hush, hush everybody. Okay, now, today is the official Wish Ceremony!" We both turn back to the front as Mary Hughs starts her speech.

"As most of you know, unless of course you're new, the Wish Ceremony is a special thing we do. We pick out of this special bowl, filled to the brim with names, eight girls and eight boys, to compete in this year's games. They must all go in, hand in hand, and come up with many a strategic plan. If they help each other, and let's hope they do, they may survive longer, this much is true. If however one is left behind, and this always occurs, they will be disqualified, no matter if it's him or her." She stops for a moment and glances around at all the enraptured faces, before continuing.

"The watcher's votes also hold a place, a helping hand I say, for though they can not help you, their votes mean you'll stay. Complete every challenge, of each contender's fear, staying in the game, and you shall end up here. A wish is the prize, for your heart's true desire, with your wish you may play it safe, or you can play with fire. No matter what, however, help each other past, to the best of your abilities, or you will never last. A hint I shall tell the future contenders, to help them through this time, is to think of each other, for no fear is truly just yours or mine. So, on a happier note, soon the show is due to start, I guess I better name you contenders, before I have a change of heart."

Mary looks down at the guy's bowl, before dipping her hand in and pulling out four names.

"Lewis Giovanni, nineteen, Hopper Vioscade, twenty one, Dex Lish, seventeen, and Terren Amazar, sixteen." She reached in and pulled out four more.

The last four are Tiggern Than, nineteen, Don Bow, seventeen, Phil Harrens, seventeen, and, Traver Sommen, sixty four. Well, we have a rather broad group of male guys this year, don't we?" Mary chuckled. "Now for the girls."

"Charisse Moneloo, forty two, Trissie Highland, seventeen, Hailey Scottes, nineteen, and Jewel Charlens, twenty." Grabbing four more names, she continued. "Tressa Loot, thirty, Devali Noahs, eighteen, Amarli Drippes, twenty five, and lucky last, Miya Welsh, sixteen." She looked up at the crowd and smiled, unnaturally white teeth sparkling in the spotlight.

I could hear Taya, her dad and Lila congratulating me, but all I could think was, I got chosen. I'm going to be on Make A Wish. I really get to do this. I get to do this.

I smiled and opened my mouth to laugh when a wave of dizziness over came me.

"Miya? Miiiiiiyaaaa? Aaaare yoooou feeeeeeliiiiiinggg oooookaaaay?" Lila's voice wavered, and her face blurred. I could barely feel Taya shaking my shoulders to snap me out of it.

Everything started going black.

I was picked....
