'Why doesn't she play for the tennis team' was my thoughts about Shadō Seira. You might want to know that currently Yukimura is debriefing us in the living room of his house. You also might want to know how I know Shadō-san plays tennis if she covers her steps so much I can't even find a trail. The reason is so simple lots of people overlook the possibility. I was there. I was at the tournament. I was participating. I lost to her. Her ability was overwhelming, her ability was the basics but still she beat every opponent.
Her training menu was probably double ours is now back then. I can't imagine her current menu. When I found she was in our school I was shocked. I mean how would you feel if the one opponent you could never forget was found to be attending since second year and had stayed hidden from you the data master for an entire year. Even worse she apparently doesn't play tennis.
* Flashback *
"Welcome to the Japan national tournament for all ages, this year all of the top players of japan will be playing including a few pro players who aren't competing in tournaments around the world." I heard the announcer say as I entered the stands and went straight to the front row, which was reserved for players.
I only entered this tournament to test my skills with all the pros I knew I have no chance, but no matter what I will play to my very best ability. As the announcer started to talk I zoned into what he was saying.
"....and so I will now show the pairings for the doubles preliminary and 1st round after all the best tennis players have to be able to play doubles,"
I walked towards the list to find my name. Yanagi Renji – Shadō Seira. 'Who the hell is this I mean I have never heard of them before' I sighed I would have had a better chance had I been paired with a pro.
"Are you Yanagi-san?" I heard a voice behind me. What I saw shocked me a girl my age stared back at me I mean sure I am competing at the age 8 but how many people can do that. "Uh.... Yes I am, why do you ask?" I replied. "Great I am Shadō Seira," she said simply." 'Here I was hoping I might get a decent partner instead I got a little girl' damn it.
"Lets go our first match will begin soon," I said simply to her all she said was hmn. As I walked I took in her appearance. 'Almost white blonde hair obviously dyed, ice blue eyes, and average height' she looks like every average player I sighed and then I heard it, "Yanagi Renji and Shadō Seira to court A for your first match," "Lets show them age doesn't matter," Shadō said smiling as she walked onto the court.
I walked behind her and took the baseline she easily walked to the net and took her place to find out who served, it was then I looked at the opposition 'two pros and not just pros doubles pros, we are pretty much screwed' I sighed. Their net player spun his racket while Shado-san called out "Rough," surprising the opposition I mean it definitely looked like it would fall on smooth.
What happened next shocked me completely it stopped mid spin and dropped straight onto rough. The opponent looked shocked an then asked "How could you tell I know it wasn't a guess you knew for sure it would be rough," Her reply shocked me "Anyone could tell it would be rough as long as you can read the racket spin," Then she walked to the receiving box calling out serve. I take a ball out of my pocket and serve; it is returned easily to our side so fast I could barely see the ball but then.
She just appeared in the path of the ball and returned to the very back corner so fast I couldn't see the return. 'How.... It's impossible' I thought shocked but I wasn't the only one our opponents just stared shocked at where the ball had marked the court. "How old are you?" one of the opponents asked "hmm, I am 8," was the simple reply.
In the end we won 6-1 and it was my fault we lost that one game too. By the end of the tournament she had only given that one game and she won the overall competition easily.
* End Flashback *
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a violin. "Who is playing the violin?" asked the ever stoic Sanada. "I have no idea," was Yukimura's answer "Anyway now that we are done talking you should all leave," he said while pushing us out of the house "Sayonara," I called out as we left.
Tomorrow was the competition and we will not loose.
