                           Death & Silence

I jumped as something slapped down on the table before me. I looked up to see Jayde wearing a smirk of self-satisfactory cold amusement on her lips.

“Read.” She commanded and moved away. I rolled my eyes at her retreating back, but, after a moment, succumbing to curiosity, looked down. It was a newspaper. My fingers shook with rage as I read.  It stated; in big, bold headlines:

“Third Vic Found Dead In Less Than 72 Hours.”

Terror strikes the small town of Adeline as yet another body was found, discarded in a wooded area approximately 3.5 miles out of Adeline. It was discovered in the early morning hours by one Ron Hide while walking his dog. Hide occupies a small cottage about a twenty minute walk away from where the corpse was first discovered.

“I was just out, ya know? Takin’ out ol’ Sheila to do her business when she, all of a sudden starts a barkin’ and runs ahead o’ me.” Claims Hide, “She stops by this pile a rags- it looked like a pile a rags from where I was standin’- and starts to whine. I get closer an’ I notice it wasn’t no rags! It was a body. I picked myself up, ran and called the police.”

The body was later identified as John Peter Evans, 17, a local boy who went to Adeline High School. He was a member of the Debate Club and was a straight A student. John Evans was found in much the same way as the other two vics were found: cast-off in a secluded area, neck broken, eyes wide open. But, other than that no adiditional signs of bodily harm. Locals are left in a state of shock and disbelief at this latest development. This is an on-going investigation. The police have gathered no clues, no leads, nor persons of interest and want to encourage anyone with any information whatsoever to please step forward.
