Eva's point of view:
“Eva, come down now, it’s too late to still be in bed! Your brother and sisters are up, so you have no reason to be up there still!”
“Ok, mother!”
“Just because you’re seventeen now doesn’t mean you have any more freedom especially now as the war is going on!”
“I know, I’m just getting changed!”
I pull on my muddy brown knee-length skirt, my white blouse and quickly tuck it into my skirt, then pull my only pair of nude coloured tights on and slip on my practical shoes. Not forgetting to put on my Grandmother’s necklace which is my most prized-possession.
“Don’t forget to put you Star of David badge on!”
“How could I forget, you tell me everyday!”
Sometimes I wish things could be different, everyday I am constantly reminded that I am unwelcomed in my country and the Nazis blame us for the defeat of the first world war. I wasn't even alive when they were defeated, so how am I to blame? My father worked alongside those men as an equal and now we are to be blamed with something which in my opinion is the governments fault. It just isn't fair.
Fiddling with my badge I run downstairs to find a small bowl of steaming hot porridge waiting for me. Knowing it won't taste great, I shovel it down.
The rest of my family were rushing about getting ready for the day ahead as usual when suddenly the door bursts open to reveal two Nazi soldiers.
They start shouting at us to pack a case each and get into the truck. I feel like I’m spinning, so many unanswered questions are running through my mind, why is it happening to us? We haven’t done anything wrong! Where are we going?
When I walked out of my house, I didn't know that would be for the last time. For, what was to come of me I didn't know, all I knew was that something far beyond my imagination was about to happening to the whole of my family and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
