Ryan crouched down low by the fountain. He placed his hand on the cool, slightly damp, marble. Shifting he tried to work out the cramps that formed in his calves. Placing his other hand in the soft grass he put some weight on it instead of his legs. Big mistake. He put to much weight on his hand, making him unbalanced. He toppled forward. His cheeks burned red with embarrassment, but, luckily, no one saw him. Scrambling back up he hurried and got back in his watching position. It was a good thing he did.
He saw Aria creeping along the ground, a few feet away from where Ryan hid. She hadn't seen him yet, probably because he fell, a great advantage for him. He slipped back a little and got closer to the ground. When she was almost on top of him Ryan sprang out. She held out a hand and he was instantly suspended six feet off the ground. Aria chuckled and sprinted away. When she was a good distance away he dropped heavily to the ground, landing on his back. He picked himself up again just in time to see Wally sprinting toward him. He jumped out of the way and watched as he scooped up Aria and dropped her off at the twin's feet then sprint away again. The twins tapped her shoulder's. Gold and silver mixed and soon all that was left was a sparkling statue, with a very annoyed look on it's face.
Spark scanned the area, watching for anyone on the other team. Or the monsters. She shivered at the thought of them and absentmindedly ran a finger over the long scar that started at her shoulder and ran down to her wrist. She heard footsteps coming toward her from behind. Instinct took over. She pulled out the knife hidden in her boot and turned, arm outstretched. The process took less than five seconds. Standing at the end, the point of the knife pressed to his throat, stood Nano, hands held in the air. Warily she lowered the knife.
Nano let out his breath and smiled like it had never happened. Spark smiled back. Nano was the only person she smiled for and, for.the most part, trusted. It was the same for everyone. He was the one who everyone treated like the little brother. He was the one they went to to tell their secrets and such. He was the one they all looked after and cared for. Mostly Spark.
"I've got the flag hanging up in a tree. A few traps are set up here and there. All-in-all I'd say we're good." He said. Spark nodded and looked around again keeping a hand on her knife. Nano put a hand on her shoulder, "Hey we're gonna be alright. We're capable of taking care of each other." then he got a serious look in his eyes, "Look I promise I won't ever let anything happen to you." His voice was rough and scratchy, probably from breathing in fumes and smoke from his projects, but Spark found it comforting. She pulled him into a tight hug. He hugged her back for a minute but they pulled away quickly. A small crack had sounded from Nano's left.
They faced it staring into the trees not sure what would come out. Spark was breathing heavily and clutched her knife to her side, knuckles white. Nano shifted slightly so he was between the noise and Spark. She continued to stair at the trees, acting as though she either didn't notice him moving or just didn't acknowledge it. Something flew out of the trees and hit Nano in the chest, sending him flying backwards. He slammed into Spark sending them to the forest floor. Spark carefully pushed Nano off of her. He fell on his stomach limply. Looking down at her hands she gasped and wiped them on her green army pants, tears threatening to spill over. Her hands were covered with blood. The monsters had found them.
