Chapter One
Lighting flashed. Thunder rolled. I awoke to the steady sound of the storm outside my window. I yawned and hazily looked around my room.
Everything's all right. He doesn’t know where I am, I said to myself, closing my eyes in an attempt to allow sleep to take me once again.
But then the thunder rumbled after the lightening lit up my room even brighter than before. I gasped and opened my eyes to see him. He was standing in the corner of my room, staring at me with that intense look of his. It was as if I had never gotten away, never escaped his lies. And now he was here to take me back.
I clamped my eyes together and prayed, please, please let this be a dream.
"Hello, darling," a smooth voice whispered through the darkness.
I opened my eyes and was frozen with shock. I could tell with the way his face changed from a self-satisfied smirk to disappointment that he was hoping I would have welcomed him with open arms and forgiven him after all this time.
"You're no fun," he pouted.
The reality of what was happening hit me, and I made a move as if to escape. With a flash, he was in my face, grabbing my shoulders and shaking me forcefully, but gently.
"Nope!" his voice said. "You don't want to scare your nice little friends, do you?"
I froze once again, and then quickly shook my head.
"I didn't think so. Now, this is what's going to happen. You're going to take my hand and we're going to leave. There is no need to bring any of your belongings. Devin and the help have made sure there are clothes and other necessities for you at the lodge."
"No!" I whispered fiercely. "I'm not coming back."
"It's too late for that," he murmured. “You promised.”
Suddenly, he grabbed my hand and I felt a sharp prick, then everything went black.
