Misty's POV
"Misty. Ophelia. Knight. Will you please eat dinner." my mother sighed in frustration furrowing her eyebrows. I gave her a small nod in reply.

"I know that you're nervous, but this is so exciting!" she exclaimed, "this is like a brand new chapter in your life! You're done with school and you're ready to move on and find your soulmate!"

I fiddled with the thin silver chain and disfigured pendant resting daintily around neck. I furrowed my brow and concentrated hard on the steaming stew in front of me, going over my words carefully,

"I'm just... anxious to see... what type of person is worth such a... long journey." The pendant on my necklace was special. Just like everyone else's. When I was born one of the Great Wizards of the Wizard Council had given it to me as a gift. It was a magic necklace enchanted by them that allowed me to have my semblance - the ability to create and control fire. The only catch was that the necklace was broken in half and somebody else who is my perfect match owned the other half and I had to find them. The necklace had some sort of magic in it that makes it warm and cold the closer and further away you get from your partner. Most people feel their necklace get slightly warmer at random parts of their day where their soulmate and them may have ended up in in closer proximity than usual.

I'm not an unusually shy or antisocial person, nor am I an outstandingly confident extrovert. However, it's not completely daft that I should be nervous to leave everything that I know, my friends, my family, and well my home, not to mention for a boy I haven't even met.

The boy whom I know nothing about will be embarking on the same journey as me and we will meet halfway, hopefully. I've heard stories of girls and boys who have traveled the full distance to their soulmate and found them sitting in their homes, not having moved even a few feet from their houses. I hoped to the Gods and Goddesses, scratch that, I begged them to not destine me to an eternity with a lazy spouse.

"Yes I understand your anxiety, but once you get out there your nerves will calm I promise."

"Mom... You know it's not just that."

"No, no, and no. Please Misty do not bring it up again." She buried her face in her hands.

"I just want to remind you that soulmate or not, after my quest is over I'm joining the Covenant and becoming a huntress."

"No! I will not condone such behavior Misty! I raised you to be a lady, one that stays at home and cares deeply for her children."

Don't get me wrong, I love my mom, but when she gets like this I just want to take my scythe and chop her head off.

Ever since my dad was killed by the Leviathans my one goal was to attend the Covenant, a training school in Porcelia a kingdom just south of Nartifia. I wanted to go there and train to become a huntress, a guardian, a protector of the realm, a server of the Gods, and most importantly a hero. That's why I created my scythe, which, might I add,  is also a high caliber sniper rifle, I'm very proud of my baby. I named her Vi which stands for Vice because, well because it sounded cool.

Anyways, not only have I been skeptical of this whole soulmate thing, I didn't want it to get in the way of my ultimate goal. However, I wouldn't have a choice, I would embark on my quest tomorrow whether I wanted to or not, and I would search for my soulmate.
