Dawn's POV

I sat up and yawned, pushing my long white hair out of my face. Tori knocked on the door and pushed it open with a creak. "Wake up, sleepyhead. I need to get to the tavern.Oh, and after I get done at work, I'm going to drop by the orphanage to see Mira." Tori, formally Victoria, worked as a waitress at the local tavern, The Rogue Wolf. Her sister lived in Valond, a fellow waitress at an inn named 'The Nifty Fox'. She was of Valondian birth, like me. She'd always wanted to return to her homeland. I had always though I'd lived there before. I couldn't remember if I did. I couldn't remember anything, actually. That's why I chose to be called Dawn, like the start of a new age. Mira was a young half-lith, half human who lived in the local orphanage. She'd been kicked out of the lith community of Teren for her mixed blood. She even claimed to have a brother, who was my age. Only half brother, though. He was half kaleik. He lived in Valond. "Oh, and Paris is waiting outside for you." I nodded and followed her through the house, putting on my boots, jacket, and pack. I grabbed an apple and took a huge bite as we passed the kitchen of our humble townhouse. She sighed and we opened the front door. Paris jumped and fell, stumbling from his leaning position against our wall. Tori and I nearly died in laughter. "Hey! Not funny! You.. surprised me, that's all!" I helped him up. "Yes, and I am half dwarf. That's all." Tori waved and sent her bouncing red hair down the gravel path. Paris sighed in exasperation and scratched the back of his head. "We need to get going if we're going to bring home some profit.." I nodded and we ventured off into the woods to hunt.

We brought home a gargantuan buck, whom I speared between the eyes with an arrow. It took hours to haul it back to the cottage. When we got back, I put it in the shed and Paris went home. I opened the door to see Tori crying in the chair. I sat down my bag and ran over to her. She paused her sobbing to look up at me. "What's wrong?" I asked, putting my arm around her. "Oh, Dawn, I'm so sorry.. So sorry.." She continued mumbling 'so sorry'. "What are you sorry about? I'm not mad at you." She looked up at me with her large purple eyes.

"I think I'm pregnant."
